Local police and the Indiana State Fire Marshal are investigating a fire that occurred early Saturday morning in the sporting goods department at the Crawfordsville Walmart store.
Crawfordsville firefighters were called to the store at 1835 U.S. 231S at 1:46 a.m. Saturday. The fire was extinguished quickly. However, members of the Crawfordsville Fire Department, Crawfordsville Police Department and Tim Murray of the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office were on the scene until approximately 8 a.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Jim Fulwider said the store manager listed the loss from the fire at $300,000.
The store was evacuated and closed until mid-morning Saturday.
Two Walmart employees complained of having difficulty breathing and were treated by medics at the scene. Both declined any further medical treatment.
Murray and Crawfordsville Police Detective Dave Long are leading the ongoing investigation. Anyone with any information about the fire is asked to contact Long at 362-3762.
The Montgomery County Health Department also was called in to assist.
