St. Bernard Catholic Church will fire up the country kitchen and raise money for local nonprofits this weekend at the annual fall bazaar.

The event, which dates back to the end of the Civil War, runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. About 100 volunteers will be on hand to run the bazaar, the church’s largest single fundraiser of the year.

Homemade dry noodles are the featured menu item in the country kitchen this year, and a new food caterer has been lined up. Remington Poultry will serve roasted chicken, roasted potatoes and sides. Also making their first appearance at the event, Backstep Brewing Co. will serve beer.

Other activities include craft vendors, children’s games, a Texas hold ‘em tournament, Bingo and Blackjack. Guests can bid on silent auction items, including handmade crafts, and register for a $2,500 grand prize raffle. The raffle drawing will be held at 8 p.m.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to FISH Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Women’s Resource Center and Community Chest. The rest of the money goes to church programs.

After the raffle drawing, Father Chris Shocklee will answer questions about faith in a special edition of Priest and a Pint. The church partners with Backstep for the monthly event.

“But this will be the first time that individuals under the age of 21 will be allowed at one of these events,” said Aaron Spolarich, chair of the bazaar.
