WAYNETOWN — Germany is coming to Waynetown on Saturday. The Waynetown Oktoberfest is scheduled 4-10 p.m. at the town’s park. It is the newest festival to be hosted by local community event planners. German food and four live bands will be featured.

The event is a fundraiser for the town’s Freedom Festival, which occurs annually in late June. The Freedom Festival Committee decided to put on the German-themed festival to help with the cost of the summer festival.

“We hope to be able to raise some funds for the Freedom Festival to make our fireworks show even better,” Freedom Festival committee member Steve Proctor said. “People worked to get our new park stage so we wanted to use it in some way in October. We thought an Oktoberfest would be something different and fun to try.”

The menu includes brats and sauerkraut, German goulash made over an open fire and soft pretzels with cheese.

A beer garden featuring domestic and craft beers will open at 4 p.m. There will be commemorative mugs for sale which will provide purchasers a discount on their first brew.

Four bands will bring live entertainment throughout the day. The Josie Beach Polka Band will kick off at 4:30p.m. and will play for one hour. The rest of the band lineup includes Mediocre at Best at 6 p.m., Eric Barr and the Jammers at 7:30 p.m. and LILT will play at 9 p.m.

There will be a free brat toss competition a 7 p.m. Cornhole boards will be available. Extra-large mums will be on sale for $10.

Fire pits available to keep festival-goers warm in case of cool temperatures.

There will be two clearly marked entrances into the festival grounds which will be roped off. Parking will be made available directly north of the festival area. Attendees older than 21 years of age will be asked to provide proper identification to purchase alcohol at the beer garden.

“We want people to come and enjoy a new activity in our wonderful park,” Proctor said. “There is no admission charge. We just want people to show up with their friends for some good food, music and fellowship.”
