VEEDERSBURG — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of Keith Summers, 59, of Covington after he was found floating face down in Coal Creek south of Veedersburg.
According to his family, Summers left his residence on Wednesday afternoon to go fishing. When he didn’t return home after several hours and heavy rains, his brother, Joe Summers, began to search for him. Joe Summers located his brother’s vehicle at the Coal Creek covered bridge on Cades Hollow Road in southwestern Fountain County. He then discovered his brother’s body floating in the creek approximately 100 yards downstream of the bridge.
The body was recovered from the creek late Wednesday night.
Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted at the scene by the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department, Covington Fire Department, Veedersburg Fire Department, Fountain County EMS, Veedersburg Police Department and the Fountain County Coroner.
An autopsy was conducted on the body of Keith Summers yesterday at the Tippecanoe County Morgue. The preliminary autopsy report ruled his death as an accident. The primary cause of death was ruled a heart attack with drowning as a contributing factor. It is unclear how Summers ended up in the creek.
