Following their motto of “Giving, Serving, Leading,” Youth as Resources, a program of the Youth Service Bureau, has recently awarded a $200 grant to a local Eagle Scout candidate, Sam Doty.

His project is one to help children who are in the custody of the Department of Child Service. When youth are removed from their homes on an emergency basis, they do not always have the time to get all of their own things. Doty will use the funds to help build shelving that will hold various hygiene products and other items for youth that have been removed from their homes. He will also be soliciting donations for the various hygiene products. Because of this project, the children in care will have easy access to select hygiene products and other items. His wish is that this will help to make a traumatic experience less difficult for the child.

YAR challenges youth to identify community needs and design projects that use their skills, creativity and energy to help others. They do this by providing financial resources to enable youth to meet these needs.

YAR meets regularly to screen grant recipients and plan and implement service projects and fundraisers. The youth do various service projects such as Habitat for Humanity volunteer day, volunteering for the Civitan Special Needs Prom and more.
