New happenings at the Vanity Theater being this month with callouts for the new Vanity Singers program on Sunday.

Callouts for children in kindergarten through fifth grade will be 3-4 p.m. and callouts for children in grades 6-11 will be 4-5:30 p.m. The two Singers groups will be led by Stefanie Deaton and Dustin Gardner, both from the Crawfordsville area. There is no need to prepare anything to be a part of these groups. Come learn about the exciting plans for singing, dancing and performing. These include a Halloween performance, Downtown Party Night activities and a Christmas dinner show. Fees per semester are $40 for the Fireflies (K-5) and $50 for the Rising Stars (6-11). Each group will meet weekly on Sunday afternoons in the annex at 120 S. Washington St. to work on materials for the performances. Any questions should be emailed to vanity.singers@gmail.com.

This will be the third year of Singers involvement for Stefanie Deaton, who teaches at Crawfordsville Academy of Dance and has directed and choreographed several musicals at the Vanity, most recently Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She loves working with “the littles” and last year directed Winnie the Pooh for Vanity Singers. This fall will be Dustin Gardner’s first year as musical director for the Vanity Singers, but he comes with lots of qualifications. He was in the Glee Club while at Wabash College, where he studied vocal performance and Spanish; he also has taught choir at Southmont High School; currently leads worship at Ladoga Baptist Church; and gives music lessons. His most recent performances at the Vanity have been in Oliver!, Grease, Sweeney Todd and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

In other areas of the theater this month, the new season opens Sept. 20, with the Agatha Christie murder mystery And Then There Were None, sponsored by Hannum Insurance and directed by Keith Strain. Tickets are available online now at www.sugarcreekplayers.org or from the box office. Starting Sept. 18, the new box office hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Friday during performance weeks. All shows have two weekends of performances, including Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.

Call the box office at 765-362-7077 or go online to get more information.

The Sugar Creek Players annual meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 in the theater. The public is invited. Any interested people are encouraged.
