The Whitlock Veterans Community Picnic will be 1-3 p.m. June 24 at the Whitlock Place, 1719 S. Elm St.
Organizers will grill and raise funds for Honor Flights as well as collect clothing and books for the Indiana Veterans Home. This year’s goal is to raise $2,500 for the Honor Flight Network, which will send five veterans on a flight. At this time, the Honor Flight network is focused on making sure all World War II veterans who would like to go on a flight to see the monuments in Washington, D.C., are given that opportunity.
Joe Ellis, Montgomery County VA officer and Honor Flight representative; Legion Commander Dale Wilson and Honor Guard Commander Mike Spencer will lead a program at 1:30 p.m. to honor veterans and share more about the flights.
Along with the program, there will be a bounce house, face painting, various fun carnival booths, craft vendors and the classic military war movie Patton playing in the Whitlock theater with free popcorn.
Area businesses are invited to participate through monetary donations to the Honor Flight Network and/or door prize gifts. Door prizes can be gift baskets, gift cards and single items.
Organizers are also looking for volunteers to take a turn in the dunk tank.
Checks can be made to the Lafayette Honor Flight Network, door prize donations can be dropped off at Whitlock Place, 1719 S. Elm St.
