The Flower Lovers Club held its September meeting with a field trip. We had lunch at the Beef House. Twenty-two members and one guest attended. President Karen Cook recognized members with September birthdays. Hostesses for September were Janet Hook, Sandy Lewien, Sandra Lawson and Margie Staten.

After lunch the group traveled to Champaign, Illinois, to tour the University of Illinois Garden. Tour guide Diane showed club members several gardens. Many of the gardens had themes, such as trial garden where new varieties are tested. Other gardens included the Japanese Garden and Idea Garden cared for by Master Gardeners and several others. Diane said the cold wet spring and hot dry summer affected several types of plants.

The next meeting will be Oct. 2 with a trip to Avon Gardens and Frazee Gardens. Lunch at the Mayberry Cafe is planned.
