Doris E. Cler of Crawfordsville passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2019, at home, surrounded by family. She was 84.

Mrs. Cler worked for a time at RR Donnelley and Western-Southern Insurance but mostly was a loving, caring mother and wife who gave with all of her heart. She was a great cook who never served a bad meal. She loved gardening, cooking and crocheting. Mostly, she loved her family, especially her kids and her grandkids. She was a member of the Montgomery County Extension Homemakers, Donnelley Club and local bowling leagues.

Born Aug. 9, 1934. near Parkersburg, she was the daughter of Hobert Knowling and Florence Verhey Knowling. She attended Crawfordsville schools and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1952. She married Lloyd Joe Cler on Feb. 27, 1954, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Crawfordsville.

Surviving family includes: husband Lloyd Joe Cler; daughter Celena K. Melson of Indianapolis; son Daniel J. Cler (Carla Byers Cler) of Crawfordsville; daughter Crystal E. (David) McKenna of Richmond, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jacob) Hovermale, Christopher Moore, Kaylee Jo Cler, Michael McKenna and Emily McKenna; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Reagan and Grayson; and three brothers, Albert (Nancy) Knowling, Carl (Nancy) Knowling and David Knowling.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Burkhart Funeral home, 201 W. Wabash Ave., with services starting at 3 p.m., led by Pastor Dave Keesee. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
