Linda Jo Brown, 68, of Rockville passed away at 10:19 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, in her residence.
She was a stay-at-home mom until her sons reached school age and began working in the Parke County Recorder’s office for Doris Catlin and Carl Huxford. She later became an aide for the Rockville Elementary School, retiring as computer lab manager after many years of service.
She was born May 24, 1951, in northern Indiana, to the late Lennis Bemis and Marylou Collyer Bemis Wrightsman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-parents, James E. Wrightsman and Mary Alice Bemis.
Survivors include: her husband of 50 years, Robert W. Brown, whom she married June 7, 1969, at Judson; sons, Rob Brown and Andrew (Melanie) Brown, both of Crawfordsville; half-brothers, James W. (Stephanie) Wrightsman of Waveland and Larry (Ronna) Bemis of Newport; granddaughter Madeline Brown; and several nieces nephews and cousins.
She was a 1969 graduate of Turkey Run High School. She was a member of the Rockville Christian Church, New Hope Christian Church in Crawfordsville and attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church. She was a member of Beta Phi chapter of ESA sorority and a founding member of the J.U.G.A volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She also oversaw and volunteered at the Welcome Center for Rockville Christian Church and started and managed the Sunday school class fund for the Rockville Elementary School cafeteria.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 2526 State Road 59, Rockville, with the Rev. Jeff Keller officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery north of Hollandsburg. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., Rockville, and one hour before services at the church.
Memorials should friends so desire, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278 in her memory. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the St. Vincent Hospital Oncology Department and Kindred Hospice for her care.
