Melvin German Kiger, 53, of Cates passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. 

He was born Sept. 20, 1965, at Danville, Illinois, to the late Carl and Elva Grace (Woodrum) Kiger.

Melvin graduated from Covington High School in 1984 and proudly served his country in the Indiana National Guard. He married the love of his life, Patsy Jane Sosbe on Oct. 16, 1983, who survives. He worked at RR Donnelley as a binder operator for over 30 years. He loved spending time outdoors cutting wood, hunting, and spending time in his garage. He loved making people laugh and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patsy of Cates; daughter Amber (Christopher) Schanlaub of Cates; seven brothers, Garry (Susie) Kiger of Bedford, Bobby (Robin) Kiger and Scott Kiger, both of Crawfordsville, Kevin (Danna) Kiger of Clinton, Chris Kiger of Kingman, Larry (Rhonda) Kiger and Leslie Kiger, both of Cates; three sisters, Pam Norman of Crawfordsville, Teresa Moyer of Lafayette and Lisa Kiger of Brazil; three grandchildren, Kaydyn and Hayley Kiger and Preston Schanlaub; and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jeremy Kiger; twin brother Elvin Kiger; two other brothers, Karl Nelson Kiger and Billy Kiger; and sister Sharon Lamb.

Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 10 at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S. First St., Kingman, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Pastor Bob Cruea will officiate. Burial will follow at Coal Creek Cemetery. Sanders Funeral Care entrusted with care.
