Donald Gene Craig, 94, of Veedersburg passed away at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at The Waters of Covington.
Gene was born Nov. 25, 1924, at Veedersburg, the son of Edgar and Alberta (Baldwin) Craig. He married Mona Lea Smith on Dec. 2, 1945, at Veedersburg. She preceded him in death May 1, 2012.
Surviving family include: daughters, Bonnie Morton and Kathy (Doug) Pugh; both of Veedersburg; grandchildren, Amber Petak and Troy Pugh; and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Pugh, Orion Pugh, Josey Harden and Cassidy Harden.
Gene attended Veedersburg High School before joining the U.S. Army, where he served his country during both World War II and the Korean War. He was employed for many years buying and selling timber. Gene and Mona also owned and operated the Veedersburg Flower Shop for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #288, VFW Post #2395, F. & A.M. Lodge #491 in Veedersburg; and he was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association in Amarillo, Texas. In his younger years he had enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Garland Pannell officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday and continue until the time of service. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #288 following the memorial service. Private family burial will take place at Kingman Fraternal Cemetery.
