Howard Mason Kunkle, 88, of Veedersburg passed away at 6:44 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, in Williamsport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Howard was born June 18, 1931, at Newport, the son of Clarence Earl and Mary Madelyn (Wilfong) Kunkle. He married Mildred Maxine Wrightsman Dec. 6, 1953.
Surviving family include: his wife, Mildred Kunkle, Veedersburg; two daughters, Terry (Linn) Allen, Veedersburg, and Trudy (James) Hook, Lexington South Carolina; two sons, Aaron (Suzi) Kunkle, Indianapolis, and Alex (Donna) Kunkle, Danville, Indiana; sister Joan (Sam) Ellis, Dana; brother Clarence Earl Jr. (Lee Ann) Kunkle, Plainfield; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Howard graduated from Bloomingdale High School in 1949. After high school he served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the period of the Korean War. He was employed at Olin/Flexel for many years near Covington, retiring from there in 1993. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Veedersburg, where he had enjoyed attending church services and visiting with the people. His hobbies included playing golf and a good game of euchre. His greatest enjoyment in life came from being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at First Christian Church, 301 N. Mill St., Veedersburg, with Pastor Garland Pannell officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at First Christian Church. Burial will be at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville, with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288 and the U.S. Air Force.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
