Mary K. (Hougland) Cox, 82, returned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God made her the person whom everyone loved.

Mary K. was born April 23, 1937, at Covington, to the late Kenneth Hougland and Hildreth Hougland (Everett)

She was blessed with a devoted husband, Dwight Cox, and a loving family. Dwight and Mary K. were married on Sept. 15, 1957, at a little country church in Covington. She was dedicated to helping her husband on the farm for 22 years and raising their three daughters.

Mary K. was an active member of the Congregational Christian Church at Darlington since 1966. Her love for music led her to many years of playing the piano and keyboard for the praise team. She kept the congregation hopping, in more ways than one! She loved life and her spunk along with her sense of humor left a lasting impression to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.

She is survived by husband Dwight; daughters, Camilla Sawick, Connie (Ken) Lee and Carla (Fred) Earl; her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mary K. was preceded in death by brother Gene Hougland; her parents; and son-in-law David Sawick.

A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, July 17 at the Congregational Christian Church, Darlington. Burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Darlington. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the service to follow immediately after.

Burkhart Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
