Wilbur Myron Day, 89, of San Diego, California, died Thursday, July 11, 2019.

He was born Sept. 6, 1929, at Canton, Haywood County, North Carolina, to Arlie Allen Day and Leora Jeanette (Rogers) Day. He was the third of three children. His siblings are Helen Louise (Day) Pithoud and Russell Allen Day.

After high school, he entered the Navy at 17 and served for five years, which brought him to San Diego. He married Eleanor (Johnson) Day on May 7, 1950.

He worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph for over 30 years. Wilbur was liked by everyone and was known to be charming and friendly. He loved to tell a story and enjoyed lengthy conversations.

He is survived by his sister, Helen Pithoud; his children, Karen McHenry, Edward Day and William Day; and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Russell Allen Day; and his son, Russell Day.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 24 at Greenwood Cemetery in the Salli Lynn Chapel.
