Oak Hill Road

still needs work

Despite the commendable job your Street Dept. employees do patching Oak Hill Road it is past time to repave it. That road is just as important as your city streets. Also the berm on the northside needs scraped off so the water runs in the ditch not down the road. At some point the city wanted it, they annexed it, now take care of it.

Protect the Second Amendment

If you value your right to keep and bear arms (Second Amendment), vote President Obama out. His allies need their walking papers as well, Hillary Clinton, the “Brady Bunch,” Eric Holder, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; tv’s biased media can’t be voted out, so don’t watch them. Don’t read the New York Times or the Washington Post. You can’t be brainwashed if you don’t buy into it.

If you think common sense prevails naturally, hold on.

An ancient oak tree fell on a passing motorist in Great Falls, Va., killing the driver. The Post noted that the “killer oak” shouldn’t be the only one cut down. That the community would be safer without them. The debate continues. This example is a bit off subject. I would submit that the tree falling was an accident.

You can’t legislate against evil, madness or accidents.

There are people who don’t own guns or don’t want them in their homes. That’s fine. But for those of us who do, I want to keep mine and have the choice of use if “push comes to shove” and be able to defend myself in a life or death situation.

Like a buddy of mine once said, “I’ll take my chances with a jury of my peers and I might go to prison, but I can’t come back from the grave.”

President’s job is to keep us safe

Both Romney and Obama campaigns have resurrected the old political phrase, “It’s the economy, stupid!” invented decades ago by some politician. Everybody knows it is true, right? Unfortunately, the fact that everyone knows something does not make it true. The President’s job is national security. If he fails to protect it, all his other successes are for nothing. If he succeeds in protecting it, all his other failures will count for little. Jesus put it succinctly in the New Testament, “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul?”

The importance of national security does not depend upon what voters think, it is immutable, like the law of gravity. No matter how many people thought the Earth was flat at one time, did it actually affect the Earth? Not at all.

The voters may choose a president based on his economic work, or his good looks, or his height, or any other thing they think proper. But the fact is, they ignore national security at their peril. I am sure the radical Islamists are laughing out loud that the American President thinks more of his re-election than he does of the safety of Americans at home and abroad.

@braceman12, I do not appreciate you telling me to educate myself, I have done so sir. Now then, had you used your very own advice, and educated yourself I wouldn't have to do it for you. The facts, and quotes that I posted are taken directly from: http://2012.democratic-candidates.org/Obama/Gun-Control.php

For the record, I choose not to hide behind anonymity for a reason, as does Mr. Vaught. We care about our great country, and the many rights afforded to us. We are just simply tired of the failings of the current administration. There are many facets of those failings.

So, sir before you step in and insult others, you should do your research and use factual information, with citations.

Michael Knee and Larry R. Vaught, once again you both are so misinformed republicans i ever seen. President Obama is NOT ans WILL NOT touch your or anyone gun rights. He has done more for gun owners then Bush has ever done. Under President Obama YOU or everybody else can carry your hand gun into any National Forrest. Before you both decide talk about something you have no clue on. You might want to check and recheck your facts.
Now with Willard Romney he has taken some gun rights away while he was Governor of Mass. He had ban assault rifles and long clips that holds 30 or more bullets. Google it you both it is there. So once again educate yourself before you try to educate others.

While technically you are correct indypace36, my interpretation is a little different, you decide:

    Obama position on Gun Control

The Second Amendment: Individual or Collective Right?

Obama agrees to an individual's right to bear arms, in principle, but does not take it as an absolute right and considers it as a negotiable subject.

“I think it’s important for us to recognize that we’ve got a tradition of handgun ownership and gun ownership generally. And a lot of law-abiding citizens use it for hunting, for sportsmanship, and for protecting their families. We also have a violence on the streets that is the result of illegal handgun usage. And so I think there is nothing wrong with a community saying we are going to take those illegal handguns off the streets. And cracking down on the various loopholes that exist in terms of background checks for children, the mentally ill. We can have reasonable, thoughtful gun control measure that I think respect the Second Amendment and people’s traditions.”

    Legislations

“I have always believed that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from the violence that plagues our streets through common-sense, effective safety measures. The Supreme Court has now endorsed that view, and while it ruled that the D.C. gun ban went too far, Justice Scalia himself acknowledged that this right is not absolute and subject to reasonable regulations enacted by local communities to keep their streets safe”
Obama commenting on the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling of upholding an individual’s right to bear arms and revoking a handgun legislation in Washington, D.C
    June 26, 2008, Associated Press

"As a general principle, I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right."

Once again the conservatives are crowing about "guns rights" and how the POTUS is going to take their guns away, and how the POTUS doesn't care about US national security. What a crock. First, Obama has not, nor will he in the future, take away your guns!! Has any new gun legislation occurred since he was president - NO! Second, while your conservative president (Dubya) was starting illegal wars, this president has had Bin Laden killed, and Al Qaeda has been eviscerated.

It's about time you people stick to reality - instead of make believe.
