The Crawfordsville girl’s golf team continued to show marked improvement in a 204-222 win over McCutcheon on Wednesday evening at the Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course.

“You can see them just getting a little bit better,” Athenians coach Tony Thomas said, “And I don’t know what all to attribute that to. We are trying to keep practice fun instead of all seriousness and your competitive nature does come out eventually.”

Bailey Mittal was the meet medalist with a season-best score of 43. Evie Redding followed with a 52, while Georgia Kincaid fired a 53. Gwynn Redding shot a 56, and Sadie Walker rounded out Crawfordsville’s score with a 69.

Still early in the season, Thomas sees improvement from his players’ mental part of their game’s leading to lower scores.

“I thought when Bailey had a bad hole on No. 15 she came back and answered it,” he said. “When Georgia had a double-bogey on No. 18 she came back right with a par. Those are all good signs. And the twins both Evie and Gwynn’s scores are steadily coming down.”

The Athenians return to the course on Thursday at Wood Wind Golf Club against University High School in Westfield.
