The Southmont girls’ basketball team got its first win of the season Tuesday night traveling to Greencastle High School to take on the Tiger Cubs.

An excited first-year coach Chloe Allen had nothing but praise for her team who defeated Greencastle 63-51. With the win the Mounties raise its record to 1-1 on the season.

Leading the way for the Mounties was Cali Wetli with 23 points, two assists and 21 rebounds.

“Senior Jess Chadd stepped up huge for us with 14 points,” Allen said. “She filled the role of guard which we lost to graduation and was a leader on offense, defense and in every aspect of the game.”

Next up for the Mounties is the Sugar Creek Classic Friday night where they will take on Crawfordsville High School.

The team will work on several drills during practice today before beginning to prepare for the

Athenians on Thursday.

“Just because we got a win we aren’t going to stop,” she said. “I hope they don’t expect anything less.”

Allen also complimented the play of Arika McKinsey and Alexa McKinsey who both scored in double figures.

“They were a huge part of our offense,” she said. “Both girls were double teamed throughout the game.

“I am pleased with every single person who stepped on the court tonight.”
