LINDEN — The American Legion Byron Cox Post No. 72 Legion baseball team opened the season with a 3-2 walk-off win over Franklin on Monday night at North Montgomery.
Frankfort’s Casey Henry delivered a walk-off single with the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh after Post No. 72 loaded the bases with one out.
After the rust was shaken off the legion team comprised of members from the three Montgomery County schools and surrounding areas begin to click and show off the talented lineup they have.
“For the first time out everyone seems to get along with each other,” coach Kyle Proctor said. “They gelled well and had fun with each other. And for not playing for several weeks it was good for them to get out. It was good to start the season with a win.”
Former Southmont Mountie Cole Wemer got the start on the hill and went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. North Vermillion’s Luke Osborn picked up the win in four innings of relief, allowing just three hits, while striking out seven.
Franklin took the lead with a two-run top of the second inning, before Post No. 72 responded with a two-run third to tie the game.
Henry had two hits and a pair of RBI to lead the offense. Crawfordsville’s Jake Decker and Cale McCarty each had a hit as did Southmont’s Ryan Stanley and Cole Roach.
