If you want to see the beauty of art and flowers, stop by Tri-County Bank at 224 E. Main St. to view the new Art League Exhibit presented by Linda Cherry, Kathy Houghton and Kathy Steele. There will be an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
Cherry has created two, unique quilling sculptures made from thin strips of paper. This historic art form was used between 1200-1600 when French and Italian nuns used torn edges of Holy books to create religious pictures. In the 1700s, European ladies of wealth and influence used this art form to design baskets, portraits, and screens. Cherry, who is skilled in using shells to create Sailor Valentines, has started to use special quilling paper to reintroduce this intricate way to “paint” with paper.
Houghton, an award-winning artist, will captivate you with her exquisite and realistic acrylic painting of flowers. The detail that she puts into each petal of a rose or the colors of an iris will leave you speechless. Her painting, “Celestial Plains” will send you to a peaceful field full of wildflowers and stately trees on a beautiful summer day.
Steele shares some of her photographs of tulips taken at the Keukenhof Flower Park in Lisse, Netherlands. You can also see a couple photos of windmills taken in the Netherlands. These picturesque structures were used to regulate the water levels during times of flooding.
This bright and cheerful Art League Exhibit will remain at Tri-County Bank until Sept. 5. The bank is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
