Board OKs city’s marketing plan

Members of the Board of Public Works & Safety approved an agreement Wednesday that would help market the community to surrounding states and other areas.

The board voted 3-0 to allow the city to participate in a matching grant program with the Indiana Destination Development Corp. for the 2024 Summer Quality of Life campaign.

The IDDC is a tourism organization based in Indianapolis. Its mission is to promote, brand and tell Indiana’s authentic story to both attract and retain businesses, talent, students and visitors.

The city’s contribution to the program is $50,000 and it will be matched with $50,000 from the IDDC.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request from Hive Reality to close Pike Street at Pike Place from 2-10 p.m. June 1 to conduct its third annual home show. The event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. that day, will include vendors and live music.

• Approved the closure of Pike Street at Pike Place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday from May 11 to Sept. 28 for the Farmer’s Market.

• Approved a request from Wabash College to close Grant Avenue at College Street at noon Friday for 15 minutes to accommodate anticipated crowds at a planned dedication event.

• Opened three bids for the demolition of structures at 512 Wayne Ave. and 700 Wayne Ave. Bids were received from Neal Excavating, Crawfordsville, for $9,390 for 512 Wayne Ave. and $9,910 for 700 Wayne Ave.; W Enterprises, Crawfordsville, $18,050 for 512 Wayne Ave. and $14,000 for 700 Wayne Ave.; and McCullough Excavating, Bainbridge, $11,280 for 512 Wayne Ave. and $24,430 for 700 Wayne Ave. The bids were tabled for review.

• Approved mowing work order requests for the following properties: 500 Tinsley Ave., owned by Jordan and Cooper Brown; 1000 E. Market St., owned by GS Investment Property; 204 S. Barr St., owned by Stacia Hiller; 114 Vermont St., owned by Richard and Anita Oliver; 1501 E. Wabash Ave., owned by Anthony Phillips; and 802 E. Wabash Ave. and an empty lot on Darlington Avenue next to the railroad tracks, both owned by Burkhart Advertising.
