Cassidy Bowlin earned a top 10 finish in the Indiana Distinguished Young Woman scholarship program conducted this past weekend.

The Southmont High School senior was chosen the Distinguished Young Woman of Montgomery County in January.

This scholarship program, formerly known as Junior Miss, is the oldest and largest high school girls scholarship program in the country. Participants compete in the categories of scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression.

By winning the local program, Bowlin earned scholarship monies and a chance to compete at the state level.

This year’s state contest was conducted virtually. Contestants sent videos of their talent, fitness routine and a response to a self-expression question. Contestants also were interviewed by five judges from around the country and submitted their academic transcripts.

“Cassidy did an outstanding job and was named top 10 in the state of Indiana, winning a $500 scholarship in addition to the scholarship she won for being the Distinguished Young Woman of Montgomery County,” said Aimee Zachary, DYW of Montgomery County chairman.
