The Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce has cut ties with an employee accused of stealing nearly $22,000 from the organization.

Executive assistant Abbi Hedrick was terminated Friday, the Chamber announced in a statement.

Hedrick faces theft and counterfeiting charges for allegedly writing more than a dozen checks to herself from the Chamber’s gift certificate account and endorsing them with the former executive director’s signature stamp without his knowledge. She was suspended when the allegations first came to light in September.

“The Chamber intends to fully cooperate with the Prosecutors Office in its prosecution of the criminal matter,” the statement read.

The Chamber said it would not have further comment, citing the confidentiality of employee information.

Hedrick is scheduled to make her first court appearance Jan. 14.
