City formalizes medical oversight of paramedicine program

Posted

The City of Crawfordsville has formalized an agreement for medical oversight of the fire department’s community paramedicine program and to allow community paramedics access to Franciscan Health facilities and equipment.

The agreement, which received approval from the Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday, officially gives the Franciscan Physician Network supervision over the globally-recognized program.

Franciscan Health, its Crawfordsville hospital and accountable care organization were already partners in the initiative. There is no financial component to the agreement with the physician’s network.

Community paramedics oversee the Project Swaddle program, a quick response team and other services for people with substance use disorder, chronic disease management and vaccines and immunizations.

The board also approved a request from Crawfordsville Professional Firefighters Local 4143 to block a city intersection for the start of June 19’s Last Alarm 5K.

Traffic will be restricted at Pike and Water streets for the start of the race at 9 a.m. but the intersection will reopen after participants step off.
