H. Susan “Sue” Buck, 74, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in Union Hospital.

She was born Oct. 16, 1949, at Terre Haute, to Kenneth L. Buck and Mary M. Butwin Buck.

Survivors include: her siblings, Kenneth J. Buck (Laura) of Jasper, and Mary Ellen Buck and Dorothy Buck, both of Seelyville; nephews, Dan Buck (Brandi) and Joe Buck (Joanna), both of Jasper; great nieces and nephews, Maci, Merin, Maggie, Julio and Jack; two special aunts, Helen M. Meunier and Betty Butwin; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sue taught middle school math at Waynetown School for 16 years and at Northridge Middle School for 21 years. She lived in Crawfordsville for 40 years. She coached eighth grade volleyball at both schools for many years. Sue was the scorekeeper for the North Montgomery baseball team for several years with coach and good friend Mike Strickler. She was very giving of her time and would tutor students after school both in Crawfordsville and Terre Haute.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, National Slovak Society and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority.

Sue attended St. Benedict’s and Annunciation grade schools. She was a 1967 graduate of Schulte High School and would have been an athlete in high school if only Title IX had been passed a few years earlier. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University.

Sue was a big sports fan following ISU basketball, Notre Dame football and the St. Louis Cardinals. She was an avid traveler visiting 46 of the 50 states with her sisters and a cousin. Susie was one of 37 grandchildren of John and Anna Butwin and she was close to all her cousins and would do anything for them. She played softball and volleyball while living in Crawfordsville. She will be missed by her cat, Willow.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Majestic Care Deming Park for the excellent care Susie received over the last four months.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Seelyville, with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 5 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., Terre Haute, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
