Montgomery County Sheriff Ryan Needham has been working on upgrading the county jail’s surveillance security system for the past three months.
On Monday, county commissioners approved the purchase of an updated system including hardware in the amount of $119,912. The funds will be taken from the Capital Cumulative Development Fund.
Last Tuesday, the county council approved $32,000 to purchase new cameras at the jail. The council gave the sheriff permission to use funds from the Jail Commissary Fund.
Commissioner’s approved the purchase of a UTV for the county’s land surveyor’s office.
The payment will come from the CCD fund to purchase a 2026 Polaris Ranger from Tom’s Marine in the amount of $8,249. The trailer will be purchased from Detro Trailers in the amount of $4,825.
Commissioners approved the authorization to proceed for a new Community Crossings Grant using USI Consultants Inc. If the grant is awarded, the county highway department plans to cape seal C.R. 400N from C.R. 175E to Old State Road 55, C.R. 200S from State Road 47 to C.R. 200W and C.R. 150S from U.S. 231 to State Road 47.
The grant application is for $522,628 with a county match of $104,525 making the total project amount $627,153.
Commissioners approved a Sept. 19 road closure request from Karen Bray. The request is for South Glenway Drive to be closed from 1089 to 1129 for a block party scheduled for 3-7 p.m. and hosted by the Hunter Glen Housing Association.
The auditor’s office asked for approval of an agreement to provide professional consulting services with Dossett Consulting LLC in the amount of $6,400. The contract is paid from funds identified as reimbursements to the county.
Commissioners heard on first reading an ordinance for the Cumulative Bridge Fund rate. Every year commissioners decide what the rate will be. The council has recommended the new rate be lowered to 0.045 from 0.500.
Commissioners will decide the rate when approved in October.
The next commissioners meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sept. 28 at the government center. One item on the agenda will include a decision on the solar farm request in northeast Montgomery County.
