AP Development LLC announced the grand re-opening of the historic Ben-Hur building in downtown Crawfordsville will take place later this month.

After more than 20 years of vacancy and deterioration, the iconic structure at 227 E. Main St. has been revitalized to offer sophisticated urban living in a unique, historic setting.

The grand opening celebration will take place June 20, beginning with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony with Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton at 2 p.m. The event will run from 2-6 p.m. and will be catered by locally-based Juniper Spoon.

“We are thrilled to bring new life to the Ben-Hur building, a cornerstone of Crawfordsville’s history,” said Jon Anderson, President/CEO of AP Development LLC. “Our goal was to combine the building’s rich history with modern amenities, creating a vibrant living space that blends seamlessly with the historic downtown Crawfordsville.”

Built in 1912 as the headquarters of the Supreme Tribe of Ben-Hur, a fraternal organization formed in 1893 and named after Gen. Lew Wallace’s best-known novel, the Ben-Hur building has been a cherished landmark in Crawfordsville. Renovated in 1940 to add art deco features, the Ben-Hur housed offices for physicians, attorneys and other professionals for decades. With its rich past and the new vision for its future, the re-opening marks a new chapter for both the building and the community.

The Ben-Hur building includes 49 apartments and a short-term rental in the original Tribe of the Ben-Hur Board Room on the fifth floor. Historic elements of the building have been meticulously restored or recreated, including the lunch counter, elevator, conference rooms, stairwell, woodwork and hallways.

The Ben-Hur renovation was made possible through the financial support of AP Development partners, the City of Crawfordsville, First Farmers Bank & Trust, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

The event is open to the public, and all are welcome to join in celebrating the rebirth of one of Crawfordsville’s most beloved icons. Come see the transformation and experience firsthand how this historic building has been reimagined for modern urban living.
