Ronald “Ron” Lee Horn, 82, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2024.

He was the 12th child born to Cecil C. and Eva (Raub) Horn of Romney. Ron was born in Lafayette on July 2, 1941, and lived on a farm his entire life. He was destined to be a farmer, loving the land and wanting to leave things better than he found them. He was an innovative person, willing to try new things if it would make a difference in how things got done. His word was his bond, and a handshake was as good as or better than a written contract. He graduated from Southwestern High School in Tippecanoe County.

He married his lifelong grade school sweetheart, Margaret A. Meharry at Jackson Heights UMC. They lived on a farm and raised four children, crops and livestock. He also worked at Ross Gear, TRW in Lafayette for many years. He and his wife owned and operated Black Creek Driving Range outside of Crawfordsville.

He earned a degree in electronics from Ivy Tech. When times were tough, he drove a lime truck, baled hay and worked construction to keep things going. He loved to play cards, ride snowmobiles, fish, watch sports and drive his antique tractors. He was a member of Mount Zion Church, Montgomery County Pioneer Club, Moose Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; children, Sheila (Gene) Truncellito, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Jeffrey Horn, Lafayette, David (Kim) Horn, Crawfordsville, and Anita (Rodney) Carpenter, Stamford, Connecticut; 11 grandchildren, J. Clayton, Olivia, James, Eva, Jonathon, Alexandra, Zackariah, Victoria, Marianna, Joshua and Johnathan; seven great-grandchildren, Conner, Jackson, Tyler, Jacob, Madelyn, Caleb and Zayden; five step-great-grandchildren; and sister Maxine (Ben) Miller, Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edward, Cecil Jr. (Ireba) of Romney and Donald (Shirley) of Delphi; seven sisters, Elinor (Chet) Elkins of Lafayette, Erma (Harlan) Tyner, Indianapolis, Betty (Bob) Beever, Lafayette, Charlotte (Bud) Kelley, Lafayette, Juanita, Lillis Albregts (Earl) of Homestead, Florida, and Marilyn (Don) Kendall, Bullhead City, Arizona; and daughter-in-law Sheila C. Horn.

Calling will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 10 and funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, with calling one hour prior to the service at Friends and Family Funeral Home of Wingate. Pastor Warren Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow in the Meharry Cemetery Wingate.

Memorial contributions can be made to Mount Zion Church, 5282 S. Holiday Drive, Crawfordsville, IN 47933; Meharry Cemetery Association, 13232 S.R. 25S, New Richmond, IN 47967; or the American Lung Association.
