S.R. 32E crash claims life of van driver

A two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on State Road 32E claimed the life of one driver.

According to a press release issued by Montgomery County Sheriff Ryan Needham, emergency crews were dispatched at 2:23 p.m. to the crash on State Road 32E, just east of C.R. 900E. The crash involved a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan, that had been traveling west on State Road 32, and for an unknown reason crossed the center line and struck a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Mark V. Dirksen, 19, of Muncie. Dirksen had been traveling eastbound and upon being struck by the van, went off the roadway.

Dirksen was transported to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Timothy L. Steele, 58, of Ladoga.

Crash re constructionists from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
