The Turkey Run Elementary School first grade classes traveled to Hillsboro to watch “Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!” at the Myers Dinner Theatre on Dec. 15. The group enjoyed lunch and the drama performance of this tale based on the June B. Jones series by Barbara Park.
First Graders Enjoy Trip to Dinner Theater
Run, run, run as fast as you can! The kindergarten students in Mrs. Brittany ShannonsRun, run, run as fast as you can! The kindergarten students in Brittany Shannons’ transitional kindergarten class made gingerbread cookies on Dec. 15. The students mixed the ingredients together, then shaped their dough pieces into the gingerbread man and baked them. When they went to eat them, there was a big problem! The cookies were gone! After searching the school and finding clues, the students finally found their cookies inLori Bowles’ fifth grade classroom. The classes have been reading several versions of the story, “The Gingerbread Man” and doing other activities to coincide with the baking of the cookies. With their gingerbread men are front row, Brantley Evans, Logan Johnson, Ella Green, Axxel Thompson, Jude Roach and Lyric Lientz; middle row, Amelia Davies, Bexley Shannon, Aida Hicks, Parker Crawford-Edwards and Emma Green; and back row, Serenity Childers, Sparrow Stakley and Anastasia Morman.

Chuck Wagoner, a retired art teacher from North Vermillion High School, visited the Parke Heritage Middle School art classes Dec. 7 to inspire the young students with his passion for pottery. Wagoner's love for molding and making clay objects started when he was a young child and played in his grandmother's creek. This led to his first official ceramic pot made in art class in 1974 and since then, he has made thousands of pottery items. During his visit, he shared his techniques for making different pots and encouraged the students to experiment with various art forms. Wagoner's love for pottery has not only been a passion but also a means of giving back to the community. He has worked with Catholic Charities to sell soup bowls that have been made by his former students and sold pottery items for Billie Creek and he currently sells items at Bridgeton. He also emphasized the importance of studying different artists to find inspiration and to develop one's own unique style. Through Wagoner's visit, the students gained valuable insights into the world of pottery and the importance of pursuing one's passion. A Passion for Pottery
As a part of their Leader in Me program, Turkey Run Elementary students received Habit Hero Awards. Habit Hero awards are given to students who set an example by being a good leader and demonstrate one of the seven habits. Awards are presented by staff members to students who they believe have excelled in one of the habits. Earning Habit Hero awards for November are front row, Lily Westbrook, Karter Scott, Brantley Evans, Remleigh Myers,and Tru Kerr; middle row, Javelin Wallace, Steven Doty, Bowen Laznik and Jonathan McLain; and back row, Kurt King, Owen Mundell, Kaden Flood, Payton Thomas and Brenton Hart. TRES Recognizes November Habit Heroes
Four Parke Heritage High School juniors have been recognized as Rising Stars of Indiana for the Class of 2025. Treyton Burgess, Addison Jenkins, Brayden Luce and Raegan Ramsay received this award from The Indiana Association of School Principals.
