MCEF Grant Recipients Honored
Parke Heritage High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members competed in their state competition held in Muncie from Feb. 29-March 2. Three groups received the highest score in their competition and received a National Qualifying bid. Earning gold medals were Savannah Cotten and Maddy Fisher in the Interior Design category and Mackenzie Reath and Justice Stark in the Public Policy Advocate category. Emma Patton received a silver medal and a national qualifying bid in the Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation category. Earning silver medals were Haley Holtsclaw - Fashion Construction; Treyton Burgess - Food Innovation; Quinten Smith - Professional Presentation; and Will Patton - Repurpose and Redesign.
FCCLA Competes at State
It was a gold medal day for Parke Heritage High School choir students who participated in the Indiana State School Music Association State Solo and Ensemble Contest held Feb. 17 at Perry Meridian High School. Jenna McVay, Kim Koren and Ella Lacy all earned gold ratings for their solo performances. Lacy performed “Homeward Bound” arranged by Jay Althouse. Koren’s song was “The Vagabond” by Ralph Vaughn Williams. McVay sang “Amarilli, Mia Bella” by Giulio Caccini, which was all in Italian. The choir director is Alec Moeller. FCHS Winter Homecoming
The Parke Heritage High School Dance Team achieved an outstanding victory at the state finals held at Farmers Coliseum on March 3. By securing first place in both the Pom and Jazz categories, they were crowned state champions. Their dedication, skill, and teamwork were showcased through their exceptional performances, earning them well-deserved recognition and praise. Team members are Marlee Jeffers, Maura Jacks, Donatella Mudica, Makayla Ricketts, Abbie Lash and Olivia Lear. They are coached by Amanda Games and Courtney Lash.
PHHS Dance Team
The Parke Heritage Middle School cheerleaders attended cheer camp at Indiana State University on Feb. 24. The group learned two chants and a dance during the camp time. They performed these chants during halftime of the ISU boys basketball game in front of a packed crowd cheering on the Sycamores. Cheering were front row, Lexi Mundell and Bryleigh Lamb; and back row, Haileigh Antrim, Brooklynn McMullen, Addi Ramey, Anna Tidwell and Emmylou Rader. Also attending the camp were Bayleigh Wallace, Taylor Snell and Avrie Hetrick.
Cheer Clinic at ISU
New Market Elementary Student Council donated $1,082 to Riley Children’s Hospital. Students sold icons, pencils and bracelets during the month of February. Glenna Livesay, student council advisor for 23 years, said the student council has donated $25,311 in that time period. The council is caring about their community and is continually on the lookout for local students or families in need of assistance. The council also conducts a spirit day every month to benefit the Veterans Memorial Park, they volunteer monthly at the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, conduct an annual talent show and put on an Easter egg hunt for first graders in the school. This year the council is comprised of 19 students.

SEFE February Students of the Month
Nick Tokman, known for his appearances on the television show "The Deadliest Catch," recently delivered an inspiring message to students at Parke Heritage Middle School and Parke Heritage High School as well as fourth and fifth graders at Rockville Elementary School and Turkey Run Elementary School. Encouraging them to take control of their lives, he asked a thought-provoking question: "Are you the captain of your life, or are you standing behind the wheel and letting others guide you?" This powerful message of empowerment resonated with the students, urging them to embrace leadership and responsibility for their own paths. Following his motivational speech, Nick Tokman engaged with the students, posing for photos and signing autographs. His presence and words likely left a lasting impact on the young audience, encouraging them to reflect on their own roles in shaping their futures. By embodying the idea of becoming their own captains, these students were encouraged to pursue their dreams and do what makes them happy. Inspiring Students
At Parke Heritage Middle School, the FFA chapter members held a “Kiss the Goat’’ event for FFA Week. Students voted for staff members to be the lucky ones to kiss “Nacho,” the goat. FFA member Landon Berry raised the most money with $143.17 to be the officer member to kiss the goat. Max Jeffries was second and Kamden Shields came in third. For the staff voting, the “new kid on the block,” Shawn Goldsberry won top honors. Also kissing Nacho were Mrs. Lisa Wrightsman, school resource officer Tyler Milner and Mrs. Kylie Gates. Students were also invited to guess the number of kernels in a glass jar, which held 1,747 pieces of corn. Emmylou Rader was only off by six guessing 1,753. Second place was Kennedy Mitchell and third place was tie between Mikey Clockson and Max Jeffries. Pictured are Kennedy Mitchell and Landon Berry.
