1-10 Roundup: Athenians girls hoops battle Stars, Mustangs and Mounties meet on mat

Athenians drop SAC matchup to Stars

Crawfordsville and Western Boone re-newed the Sagamore Conference rivalry on Tuesday as the Athenians made the quick trip to Dover. From the opening tip the Stars controlled the game leading 17-2 after a quarter. When the score board hit zeros after 32 minutes, Western Boone was able to cruise to a 61-33 win over CHS.

Western Boone had three players score in double figures as Emmy Roys notched a double-double with 18 points and hauled in 23 rebounds. Katheryn Rutherford added 17 and Carlie Pennington scored 14.

CHS was led in scoring by Taylor Abston who ended the game with nine points. Both Riley Gardner and Elyse Widmer added eight. Celeste Moore scored four, while both Addie Hodges and Madison Hedrick rounded out the scoring for CHS with two.

Western Boone improves to 11-5 on the season with the win and 3-1 in SAC play. They will be back in action Friday for a girl/boy double-header against Frankfort.

Crawfordsville falls to 4-12 and 1-4 in SAC play. They return home on Thursday to take on Riverton Parke.

Wrestling

Mounties down Mustangs on the mat

Two area wrestling teams squared off on Tuesday as Fountain Central made the trip to take on Southmont in a dual meet. South after placing 10th at the Team State meet over the weekend got back in the win column as they defeated the Mustangs 55-15.

Victories for the Mounties came at 113 from Brier Riggle as he won 6-0 over FC’s Aiden Donaldson, 126 from Maddox Cade via forfeit, Marlin Williams at 138 as he defeated Andrew Woodrow 10-2, Justin Emerson at 145 via pin over Bradon Pigg, Kaden Newgent at 152 via pin over Bryson Davis, Max Musick at 160 via injury default over Chance James, Micah Kiger (170), Tyler Davis (182), and Wyatt Woodall (195) all via forfeit, and lastly for the Mounties, Ayden Dickerson defeated FC’s Andrew Mendora via pin at 285.

FC notched wins 120 from Dallas Simmons as he pinned South’s Thomas Woods. Waylon Frazee defeated South’s Jeffrey Pine at 132 via pin and lastly Ely Thompson at 220 defeated Waylon Gomez at 220.

The Mounties with the win improve to 14-6 and will be off until Saturday when they get ready to defend their Sagamore Conference title at the SAC meet at North Montgomery.

Swimming 

Chargers split with Eagles 

As they prepare for the Sagamore Conference meet on Saturday, North Montgomery swimming and diving hosted South Putnam on Tuesday.

The Chargers split with the Eagles as they girls continued their strong season with a 111-72 win. The boys fell by a score of 105-65. 

Thursday the Chargers will make the quick trip to Crawfordsville for the prelims of the SAC meet.
