Athenians earn bounce back win over Falcons

Hitting the road for the final week of the regular season on Tuesday, Crawfordsville girls basketball took on the North Vermillion Falcons. Looking for a bounce back win, Crawfordsville got exactly that as they picked up a 56-43 win.

The Athenians got a career-high 22 points from Riley Gardner while Taylor Abston added 19.

“We were in attack mode all night, and it was great to see,” Crawfordsville coach Tyler Smith said. “I’m really proud of how we put a tough loss behind us and focused on the next opportunity. Riley Gardner had a career night. Taylor had a big night as well. And we got contributions from everyone who played.”

Crawfordsville with the win improves to 6-15 on the season. The Athenians conclude the regular season on Friday night with a trip to Frankfort which will be a girl/boy double-header beginning at 6 pm.

Boys Basketball

Chargers fight hard in close loss to Red Devils

North Montgomery boys basketball was back in action Tuesday evening as the Chargers traveled to take on West Lafayette. In what proved to a battle for a full 32 minutes, the Chargers fell in a close battle with the Red Devils 49-43.

With 3:01 left in the game the Chargers trailed 39-37, but West Lafayette was able to ice the game at the foul line.

With the loss the Chargers fall to 4-11 on the season. They’ll return home on Saturday night for homecoming as they’ll welcome Attica.

Swimming

Athenians pick up sweep of Bronchos

After another strong showing in the pool over the weekend in the Athenian Invite, Crawfordsville swimming and diving teams were back in action as they hosted Lafayette Jeff.

Cville ended the evening with a sweep as the boys picked up a 108-74 win with the girls notching a 106-72 victory.

Now the Lady Athenians will look to prepare for the post-season as next Thursday Cville will host the sectional pre-lims. The finals are slated for next Saturday.

Chargers boys take 2nd in four-team meet’

North Montgomery boys hosted Danville, Greencastle, and Cloverdale on Tuesday. The Chargers ended up taking second place scoring 49 total points. Danville scored 103 to take 1st with Greencastle getting 18 and Cloverdale 9.
