Getting Together

3/139FA Reunion

Posted

Plans are complete for the annual 3/139FA Gunners Reunion for former members and friends of the 3d Battalion, 139th Field Artillery, Indiana Army National Guard, that was headquartered in the Crawfordsville armory prior to being phased out several years ago. Other units of the battalion were located in Darlington, Kempton, Danville, Spencer, Attica, Lafayette and Rockville.

This year’s reunion will be held Sept. 4 at the Darlington (Armory) Community Center beginning at 11 a.m. A catered lunch and a golf outing for those interested are planned. Cost for event will be $15. Anyone wishing to play golf afterward should contact Steve Taylor at 765-491-6677 or staylor7@tds.net.

“Like most reunions, ours is designed to bring together those individuals who served together over the years and give them a chance to renew old friendships and share individual stories,” said S. David Long, a retired former member of the organization and reunion coordinator. “Having served and worked close to 40 years at the Crawfordsville armory it’s great to get a chance to catch up with people who are now scattered all over the state. The 3d Battalion has a long and proud history in the state of Indiana and has seen several of its members assume Division and State level leadership positions over the years. Our members were proud to be a part of the communities in which they served.”

Information has being emailed to individuals who have attended in the past. Due to increased costs, notices will not be sent out by regular mail. Anyone wanting more information about the event or wishing to register should contact Long at 765-362-4395 or dlong1172@gmail.com. Reservations need to be in not later than Aug. 31. Any contact information about former members would be appreciated.
