Mounties suffer late let-down in SAC opener to Bruins

Southmont baseball was three outs away from securing a big Sagamore Conference victory over Tri-West on Tuesday. Leading 5-3 in the top of the seventh, Tri-West scored six runs to take a 9-5 lead. Like the Mounties have for most of the season, they weren’t going down without a fight. Connor McKinney doubled, then Ryan Bowman drove him in with an RBI single. Senior Mason Hall then cranked his fourth home run of the season to get the Mountie within a run. Caden Jones doubled and the Mounties had the tying run at second base but couldn’t find a way to bring him in as the Bruins escaped for a 9-8 win.

Hall hit a pair of long balls in the loss and had three RBI’s. Carter Hubble went 2-2 with two RBI’s On the Mound Hubble threw five innings striking out 10 and giving up three hits.

The tough loss sees the Mounties drop their third straight as they fall to 3-3 (0-1 SAC) on the season. They’ll look for redemption on Wednesday when they travel to conclude the two game series with the Bruins.

Mustangs swept in WRC action vs Wildcats

Fountain Central baseball was swept in a two-game WRC series against South Vermillion as on Tuesday the Mustangs fell 12-1 to the Wildcats.

What plagued the Mustangs in the loss was their six errors they committed. FC’s offense did tally five hits and three of them came of the bat of Brayden Prickett. Cole Garbison and Owen Acton each had one.

The Mustangs fall to 0-6 (0-4 WRC) with the loss. They’ll return to action on Friday when they take on Southmont.

Softball

Athenians fall in SAC opener to Warriors

Danville softball has been one of the premier teams in the Sagamore Conference for many years now and on Tuesday the young Crawfordsville Athenians took on the Warriors and fell by a final score of 16-1. The Warriors used an 11 run second inning to blow things open.

Cville got their lone run in the third as Celeste Moore scored on a Warrior error. Moore and Olivia Hedrick had a base hit each with Brooklyn Mills going 2-2 at the plate.

CHS falls to 0-5 (0-1 SAC) on the season and will travel to Danville to conclude the two-game SAC series

Mustangs unable to hang with Wildcats in gm 2

A night after almost pulling off an upset over South Vermillion, Fountain Central softball traveled to the Wildcats and fell by a final score of 17-4.

FC tallied five hits as Zoey Foxworthy-Dejournett, Kacey Kirkpatrick, Katie Brown, Kyra Kiger, and Sami Krout all had one hit each. Kiger led the way with a pair of RBI’s for the Mustangs.

Fountain Central falls to 1-4 (0-4 WRC) on the season and will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to take on Southmont.

Girls Tennis

Mustangs edge Wolves for first win

Fountain Central girls tennis bounced back nicely on Tuesday after their narrow 3-2 loss to Covington. FC hosted another WRC rival in Parke Heritage and came away with a 3-2 victory.

FC got wins from Alydia Mellady at two singles as she defeated Jenna McVay 6-1, 6-3. Josie Harshbarger won in three sets at three singles over Rebekah Ayers 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Rounding out the wins was the one doubles team of Marylee Muniz and Hannah Prickett as they bested Hannah Thurman and Josie Bodine 6-1, 6-0.

FC improves to 1-1 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday when they host South Vermillion.

Boys Golf

Mounties down Clinton Central for first dual meet win

Southmont boys golf traveled back to Clinton Central on Tuesday after competing there over the weekend for a dual meet with the Bulldogs. The Mounties came away victorious 181-208 win. Nolan Allen led the way with a 40 for the Mounties with Austin Foley carding a 44. Harrison Haddock ended with a 46 and Luke Tesmer rounded out the scoring shooting a 51.

South will be back in action on Thursday when they host both Seeger and Covington.

Mustangs take second in three team meet

Tuesday evening the Fountain Central boys golf team was back in action in a three-team meet against Covington and South Newton. The Trojans edged out FC for first place as they shot a 187 with the Mustangs finishing three stroked behind with a 190.

Jaylin Payne took medalist honors for the Mustangs with a 41 on the night. Wes Jackson carded a 46 with Kam Krug shooting a 51. Ayden Donaldson rounded out the Mustang scores with a 52. The Mustangs return to the links on Wednesday when they host North Montgomery.
