Athenians survive vs Warriors

Crawfordsville baseball looked as if they were going to cruise to a Sagamore Conference sweep against Danville on Wednesday. The final score ended up being 8-7 Athenians as the Warriors didn’t go away without a fight.

Leading 8-2 in the top of the 7th Cville pulled starter Kale Wemer and brought in sophomore Wyatt Motz to close the deal. Motz struggled so CHS turned to fellow sophomore Jude Coursey. Coursey fared no better and before CHS knew what happened Danville had the bases loaded with one out and trailed by a single run at 8-7.

Coach Brett Motz elected to put Wemer back in the game and the junior hurler struck out the final two Warrior batters to preserve the Danville upset bid.

With the win Crawfordsville improves to 7-2 (2-0 SAC) on the season. They’ll have Thursday and Friday off before preparing to host the annual Athenian Invite which will be a three-team round robin at CHS with Norwell and Griffith.

CHS will take on Norwell at noon on Saturday and play Griffith at 5 p.m.

Mounties blanked by Bruins for SAC sweep

Southmont baseball after almost securing a SAC win over Tri-West on Tuesday traveled to conclude their two-game SAC series with the Bruins on Wednesday. The Mounties fell by a final score of 12-0 in five innings.

South tallied four hits as Mason Hall continued swinging a hot bat going 2-2 on the evening a night after crushing a pair of home runs. Trip Ward and Chayce Howell both had a hit each for the Mounties as well in the loss.

The Mounties fall to 3-4 (0-2 SAC) on the season and will be back at home on Friday when they host Fountain Central.
