4-19 Roundup: Athenian Tennis notches key SAC win over Lebanon

Crawfordsville girls tennis and Lebanon battled for over three hours on Wednesday, but the wait was well worth it for CHS as they defeated the Tigers 3-2 avenging a 3-2 loss from a year ago.

CHS picked up their wins from Emily Weliver at three singles, the duo of Elyse Widmer and Mia Wagner at one doubles , and Ali Brown and Amy Weliever at two doubles.

Widmer and Wagner were first off the courts with a 6-1. 6-1 win and Brown and Weliver were winners 9-7, 6-0. Sam Rohr fell at one singles in three sets 6-0, 5-7, 4-6 and Reagan Cox battled in a close loss at two singles falling 4-6, 4-6.

The match came down to E. Weliver at three singles and she was able to pull through winning in a marathon 6-6 (6-8), 6-4, 6-3.

Cville improves to 3-0 in the Sagamore Conference with the win.

Baseball

Bruins come away with sweep of Athenians

Tri-West was able to continue their momentum they built on Tuesday as on Wednesday the Bruins picked up a Sagamore Conference sweep of Crawfordsville 13-8.

The Bruins bats pounded out 13 more hits as Kale Wemer only lasted 2.2 innings. He gave up seven earned runs on seven hits and struggled with his command issuing seven walks while striking out three. Wyatt Motz in relief was unable to stop the bleeding either as the Bruins tabbed him for six hits and six more earned runs in three and a third.

Crawfordsville tallied 10 hits of their own. Both AJ Hall and Motz had two while six other Athenians including Cale Coursey, Kaiden Underwood, Javier Resto, Kaden Patton, Dylan Farley and Wemer all had one.

Crawfordsville falls to 9-4 (2-2 SAC) with the loss and will have another important SAC tilt on Saturday when they welcome Lebanon (5-4, 3-1 SAC) to John Froedge Field.

Patriots earn redemption over Mustangs

After coming away with a big WRC upset over Seeger on Tuesday, Fountain Central was looking for the sweep. However the Patriots had other plans and took down the Mustangs 12-2 in five innings.

Owen Acton got things started in a big way for Fountain Central launching a lead-off home run to begin the game but from then on FC could muster just two more hits. Cole Garbison and Brayden Prickett had a hit each as FC falls to 3-8 (3-5 WRC) on the season.

FC will be back at home on Saturday when they welcome Peru for a double-header beginning at noon.

Softball

Warriors come away with sweep of Chargers

North Montgomery scored six runs, that was the good news in Wednesday’s game against Danville. The bad news was the visiting Warriors pounded out 23 hits and scored 17 runs to earn a 17-6 win in five innings.

Piper Ramey continued her torrid hitting as she connected on a three-run home run in the loss. The sophomore is hitting a blistering .682 so far which leads the Sagamore Conference. Ella McManomy added two hits and Jaymie Freeman had one.

The Chargers fall to 1-7 (0-4 SAC) wit the loss and will travel to Covington on Friday before hosting county rival Southmont on Saturday.

Athenians swept by Bruins

Tri-West was able to sweep Crawfordsville softball on Wednesday with a 19-0 win in five innings.

CHS collected four hits in the loss, two coming off the bat of Celeste Moore. Brooklyn Mills and Lilyann Bridgham had one each.

Cville falls to 0-10 (0-4 SAC) on the season with the loss and will host Lebanon on Friday.

Patriots sweep Mustangs in WRC action

Fountain Central mustered just two hits in their 13-1 loss to WRC foe Seeger on Wednesday.

Zoe Foxworthy-Dejournett and Kacey Kirkpatrick were the two to collect those hits. Kirkpatrick was able to launch her fourth home run of the season for FC in the loss.

The Mustangs fall to 4-7 (2-6 WRC) and will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Covington.

Boys Golf

Athenians fall to Knights, beat Stars in three team meet

Crawfordsville boys golf picked up a win and a loss on Wednesday as CHS traveled to Central Catholic for a three-team meet with the Knights and Western Boone. The host Knights shot a 166 to earn the win over the Athenians and Stars. Crawfordsville and WeBo both shot a 184, but Cville took the win on the sixth score.

Sophomore Tanner Gilland shot a 38 to earn medalist honors for CHS. Carter Truax shot a 46, Thomas Bowling a 49, Both Andrew Jones and Braxton Smith a 51. Hayden Jeffries score of 54 decided the match in the Athenians favor while Chet Kincaid rounded out the evening with a 57.

Crawfordsville is 3-1 on the season and will compete in the Southmont Invite on Saturday, a tournament that CHS won a year ago.
