4-20 Roundup: Athenian and Charger golf, Mustang tennis all pick up wins

Athenians swept by SAC-leading Bruins

Crawfordsville was defeated by the Tri-West Wednesday evening by a final score of 16-2 in five innings. Celeste Moore was able to hit a home-run for CHS in the loss.

The Athenians fall to 0-10 (0-4 SAC) on the season while the Bruins keep their perfect record alive as they improve to 7-0 (4-0 SAC.

CHS continues conference play on Friday as they will make the trip to Lebanon for a 5:30 first pitch.

Nine-run second dooms Chargers against Warriors

A nine-run second inning by Danville allowed the Warriors to run away with 12-2 win over North Montgomery on Wednesday. The Charges were able to get a two-RBI double from Skyley Cloncs in the top of the fifth to prevent the shutout.

North Montgomery falls to 1-6 (0-4 SAC) on the season with the loss and Danville continues their strong start as they improve to 6-2 (4-0 SAC).

The Chargers will make the quick trip across Montgomery county on Saturday as they will take on county rival Southmont with a 10 a.m. first pitch.

Mustang offense finds its rhythm, but falls to high-powered Patriots

For the first time all season Fountain Central recorded double digit hits with a nine-run, 13-hit performance Wednesday as they hosted Seeger. While the Mustangs offense did come together, FC fell 23-9 to the high-powered Patriots.

Kacey Kirkpatrick had a team-high four hits and Maddie Medley had three including a three-run home-run. Sami Krout also hit her first career home run which was a grand slam for the Mustangs.

FC falls to 1-9 (0-8 WRC) and will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Covington.

Baseball

Mountie offense goes cold again vs Hot dogs

Southmont for the second straight night couldn’t get their offense going as they fell to Sagamore Conference opponent Frankfort 10-0 in five innings on Wednesday.

The Mounties fall to 1-7 (0-4 SAC) on the season and will get ready to take on county rival North Montgomery on Saturday at home with first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m.

Mustangs can’t prevent big inning in loss to Patriots

A seven-run fourth inning allowed Seeger to walk away with a 12-6 win over Fountain Central on Wednesday. Early on things looked promising for FC as after three innings they led 4-0, but the Patriots responded and never looked back.

Dawson Blue got the scoring started for FC with a solo home-run and ended the game tallying two RBI’s. Owen Acton picked up a pair of hits and also drove in a pair of runs for the Mustangs in the loss.

Fountain Central falls to 2-8 (1-5 WRC) on the season and will be back on the diamond on Tuesday when they host Covington.

Tennis

Athenians fall in competitive contest vs Tigers

Lebanon and Crawfordsville girls tennis have given each other very competitive matches the last few seasons and that continued on Wednesday when CHS made the trip to take on the Tigers, but ultimately would fall in the match 3-2.

Samantha Rohr at one singles and the duo of Elyse Widmer and Mia Wagner at two doubles picked up the wins for the Athenians. Reese Minnette and Harmony Taylor fell at two singles and three singles respectively while Cathleen McGrady and Lilly Klingbeil fell in a three sets at one doubles.

The Athenians will return to the courts on Saturday as they host the Athenian Invite which is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. Singles matches will take place at Crawfordsville while doubles matches will take place at North Montgomery.

Mustangs stay perfect with sweep of Chargers

Fountain Central remained undefeated on the season with a 5-0 victory over North Montgomery on Wednesday in their home opener.

At one singles Lillie Fishero defeated Carlie DeSmet 6-0, 6-3. Haley Webb was victorious 6-0, 6-0 over Sydney Neideffer at two singles and Angela Gonzales took home a 6-0, 6-0 win over Shayna Ratcliff at thee singles.

At one doubles Emily Jimenez and Alydia Mellady defeated Allison Guard and Sydnee Turner 6-2, 6-0 and Marylee Muniz and Hannah Prickett were winners at two doubles over Courtney Engels and Paige Hudson 6-2, 6-0.

“I keep seeing improvement in our level of play and I’m very happy about that,” Charger coach Lori Guard said. “I’m anticipating this trend to continue as we move throughout the middle part of the season.”

Fountain Central improves to 4-0 on the season while the Chargers fall to 0-3.

FC is back in action this evening at Greencastle while the Chargers will compete in the Athenian Invite on Saturday.

Golf

Athenians stay perfect on links

Crawfordsville golf hosted Sagamore Conference opponent Western Boone and Lafayette Central Catholic Wednesday at the Muni and CHS came away with a victory over both the Stars and Knights to stay unbeaten on the season.

CHS shot a 169 with the Knights coming in second with a 186 and the Stars third at a 197.

Luke Ranard was the medalist for the Athenians with a 38. Landon Timmons carded a 40, Tanner Gilland a 44, Marshall Horton a 47, Thomas Bowling a 48, Landon Hurt 50, and Chet Kincaid carded a 67 for CHS.

“It was a good effort top to bottom today,” Crawfordsville coach Tom Perkins said. “The guys at the top played well as expected.  Marshall and Thomas played well in their first varsity matches.”

The Athenians will get ready to compete in the Southmont Invite on Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

“We’re excited to be playing at the Country Club this weekend,” Perkins added. “It will be fun to tee it up with the other county schools.”

Chargers move to 2-0 under Ryker

North Montgomery hosted Fountain Central at Rocky Ridge on Wednesday and came away with a 184-202 win over the Mustangs.

Hayden Turner and Drew Norman both earned the medalist honors for the Chargers by shooting 45’s.

Jaylen Payne and Kameran Krug both led FC with 50’s while Wesley Jackson and Carter Merryman both shot 51’s.

The Chargers will also be competing in the Southmont Invite on Saturday while the Mustangs return to the course this evening at Covington for a match with WRC foes Parke Heritage, Seeger and the host Trojans.
