Mounties get back on track vs Wolves
Southmont was looking to get back to it’s winning ways on Thursday night after a nine day layoff the Mounties hosted Parke Heritage and were able to defeat the Wolves for a 4-1 win.
Hanna Long picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at one singles for the Mounties while Bailey Barker at two singles was victorious 6-3, 6-3. Kela Johnson came away with a 6-7, 7-6, 9-7 (tiebreaker) win in a three set thriller at three singles. Chaney Scott and Alea Bradley rounded out the wins for Southmont at two doubles with a 6-0, 6-4 win.
The only loss of the night came at one doubles where Dori Frederick and Marley Jones were defeated 3-6, 2-6.
“I was pleased with how our team responded to the loss last week,” Southmont coach Rob Reimondo said. “Our unforced errors were down and most importantly we battled hard from the outset.”
The Mounties improve to 2-1 on the season and will be back in action on Monday as they travel to take on South Putnam.
Mustangs continue hot start, defeat talented Tiger Cubs
Facing arguably their toughest test of the season on Thursday night and looking to remain undefeated, Fountain Central hit the road to take on Greencastle and while it was a tough battle at some spots, the Mustangs walked away with another 5-0 win.
Lillie Fishero had the toughest match of the evening for FC at one singles but would defeat Maddie Landry in three sets 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. At two singles Haley Webb defeated Caroline Gooch 6-1, 6-0 while Angela Gonzalez at three singles took care of Sophia Riggle 6-3, 7-5.
At one doubles Emily Jimenez and Alydia Mellady brought home a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bella Monnett and Liberty Amis. Marylee Muniz and Hannah Prickett rounded out the wins for FC at two doubles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kadence Shaner and Gabi Merrell.
Fountain Central will now take their 5-0 record into Saturday’s Western Boone Invitational.
Chargers fall to SAC foe Tigers
North Montgomery hosted Sagamore Conference foe Lebanon on Thursday night and fell 5-0.
Carlie DeSmet fell to Ava Lehmkuhler at one singles 6-4, 6-1. At two singles Sydney Neideffer was defeated by Molly Barber 6-0, 6-0 and Abigail Allen fell at three singles to Breanna Page 6-0, 6-0.
The one doubles tandem of Allison Guard and Sydnee Turner fell to Irene Ransom and Michelle Horvat 6-0, 6-0 and Courtney Engel and Shayna Ratcliff was defeated at two doubles 6-0, 6-3 by Aaliyah Carlisle and Kate Williams.
The Chargers fall to 0-4 (0-2 SAC) on the season and will compete in the Crawfordsville Invitational on Saturday.
Track and field
Athenians sweep Cougars
Crawfordsville track and field make the short drive to North Putnam on Thursday night for a meet with the Cougars. It’d be a successful meet for CHS as the Athenians would come away with a sweep.
On the girls side CHS defeated the Cougars 89-34 while the boys came away with a 78-45 win.
The Athenians return to action on Monday where they will be in action for a four-team meet with county rival North Montgomery, Seeger, and Fountain Central.
Mustangs have successful showing at Bi-County
Fountain Central competed in the annual Bi-County meet on Thursday and had a successful showing on both sides as they boys took home a second place finish while the girls place third.
Cadin Garrett helped the 4x100 team to a first place finish and also placed third in the long jump, and second in the 200 meter dash. Seth Martin grabbed third in the high jump and second in the 100 meter dash and Nathan Solomon placed 2nd in the 1600 meter run.
Brailey Hoagland placed first in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles while also placing second in the long jump.
Boys Golf
Mustangs place second in 4-team WRC meet
Fountain Central took three fellow WRC teams in Covington, Seeger and Parke Heritage on Thursday and ended the four-team meet with a second place finish as they shot a 185.
Wesley Jackson led FC by carding a 40 while Jayline Payne shot a 43. Koby Wolf carded a 49, Kameran Krug 53, and Carter Merryman a 56.
Covington shot a 180 to bring home first place and Nolan Potter was the medalist with a 38.

Athenian SB falls on road to Tigers
Crawfordsville made the trip up to Lebanon on Friday night for a Sagamore Conference showdown with Lebanon and would fall to the Tigers 12-1 in five innings.
CHS tallied five hits and leading the way was Celeste Moore and Laine Schlicher with two hits a piece. Addie Hodges also collected a hit and scored the lone Athenian run.
Crawfordsville falls to 0-11 (0-5 SAC) and will get ready for next week’s county matchup with Southmont. CHS will host the Mounties on Tuesday before traveling to Southmont on Wednesday.
Mustangs fall to Wildcats on links
FC took on South Vermillion on the course Friday evening and fell 209-172 to the Wildcats.
Wesley Jackson led FC with a 44 on the night and Jaylin Payne carded a 52. Koby Wolf shot a 54 and Kameran Krug ended the night with a 59. Ayden Donaldson shot a 62 and Hunter Blankenship a 68.
FC will quickly return to action tomorrow as they will compete in the Southmont Invitational at the Crawfordsville Country Club.
