Chargers break through for first SAC win vs Hot Dogs

The process for North Montgomery softball might be beginning to be working. Tuesday the Chargers hosted SAC rival Frankfort in search of their second win on the season. That’s exactly what ended up happening at Charger field as North walked away with a 9-3 win.

“The defense showed up tonight and timely hitting plated enough for the win,” Charger coach Rob Earley said. “The final out tonight was an unconventional throw from a right fielder to throw the batter out at first. We’re hoping the gloves show up tomorrow night.”

North Montgomery (2-10, 1-5 SAC) got out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and added two in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Their offense collected seven hits as Ell McManomy and Cascie Keller each had a pair. Piper Ramey, Jaymie Freeman, and Blair Nichols all added one each. McManomy ended the game with three RBI’s while Sophia Shea and and Ramey each had two.

On the mound Ramey earned the win going seven innings and giving up just five hits. She walked just one and struck out eight Hot Dogs.

The Chargers will go for the SAC swee[p tomorrow when they travel to Frankfort.

Mustangs big inning propels them to WRC win over Trojans

Fountain Central softball has the makeup to be a successful team. Tuesday FC traveled to take on Covington and ended up with a convincing 10-3 win for the their fifth win of the season as they improved to 5-7 overall.

The Mustangs used a big seven-run third inning to take a 7-2 lead and they never looked back. Kacey Kirkpatrick and Kyra Kiger had two hits each for the Mustangs who ended the game with nine as a team. Zoe Foxworthy-Dejournett, Jackie Weber, Sami Krout, Kearney Foxworthy-Dejournett and Katie Brown all had one hit each. Brown’s hit was a big three-run home-run, the first of her career.

The Mustangs will have a day off before welcoming the Trojans back to Veedersburg on Thursday.

Baseball

Mustangs narrowly down Trojans 4-3.

The scoring was done early Tuesday when Fountain Central baseball was able to defeat Covington 4-3. Covington scored all three of their runs in the first two innings while FC scored their four runs in the second, third and fourth.

The Mustangs collected eight hits with Brayden Prickett having two from the lead-off spot with senior Luke Foxworthy also having a pair of hits. Cole Garbison, Lukas Miller, Nolan Acton, and Andrew Woodrow each had one hit in the FC win.

On the mound Prickett threw the first two innings allowing four hits and all three Trojan runs while walking three. Miller came in to pitch the final five and gave up just four hits and struck out three.

FC is now 4-11 on the sesaon and like the softball team, have a day off before Covington travels to Veedersburg on Thursday.

Girls Tennis

Mustangs edge Seeger for share of WRC title

Fountain Central girls tennis earned a share of the WRC title on Tuesday when the Mustangs hosted Seeger and edged out the Patriots for a narrow 3-2 win. For the second straight year the Mustangs can say they are at the top of a very solid tennis conference.

Winning for the Mustangs was Haley Webb defeated Seeger’s Addison Shrader 6-4, 7-6 (9) at one singles. Sophomore Alydia Mellady defeated Chase Lemming at two singles 6-0, 7-5. Rounding out the wins for the Mustangs was the duo of Marylee Muniz and Hannah Prickett at one doubles where they defeated Seeger’s Ellen McDonald and Eva Ford 6-3 6-0.

Josie Harshbarger fell at three singles to the Patriots Kaylee Brown 2-6, 2-6 and Kendall Eberly and Laney Hoagland were bested by Allie Johnson and Cece Blankenship 4-6, 3-6 at two doubles.

FC will be quickly back in action on Wednesday when they take on Southmont.

Stars earn SAC win over Chargers.

North Montgomery girls tennis fell to Western Boone 4-1 on Tuesday as the Chargers travled to WeBo. The two doubles team of Sarika Gabwhwala and Dayanna Reyes picked up the lone Charger win.

North will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to take on Frankfort.

Boys Golf

Chargers still perfect in dual meets after win vs Trojans

After a dissappointing performance at the Southmont Invite on Saturday, North Montgomery boys golf rebounded nicely with a 165-196 win over Covington at Rocky Ridge.

Neal Jeffery earned medalist honors for the Chargers shooting a 39. Haze Kashon ended the night with a 41, Hayden Turner a 42, and senior Drew Norman carded a 43.

The Charges improve to 4-0 in dual meetsand will host Frankfort tomorrow back at Rocky Ridge.

Patriots best Mustangs by single stroke

In golf sometimes a single stroke can be the difference and unfortunately for Fountain Central it was the difference on Tuesday in a 191-192 loss to Seeger.

Jaylin Payne earned medalist for the Mustangs with a 41. Wes Jackson shot a 43, Kam Krug a 53 and Ayden Donaldson a 55.
