4-25 Roundup: Chargers host Athenians and Mustangs in track, CHS Tennis and Mountie golf each pick up wins

Bison get past Chargers

North Montgomery took on Benton Central on the courts Monday evening and fell to the Bison 5-0.

The Chargers had competitive matches at both doubles spots. At one doubles Allison Guard and Sydnee Turner fell 4-6, 7-5 4-10 in a super tie-breaker in the third set. Shayana Ratcliff and Paige Hudson fell 4-6, 4-6 at two doubles.

“We were able to put some pressure on them at the net, but our serving errors came back to bite us tonight,” Charger coach Lori Guard said.

Carlie DeSmet fell at one singles 0-6, 3-6 at one singles while Sydney Neideffer was defeated 0-6 3-6 at two singles. Abigail Allen at three singles was defeated 0-6, 0-6.

The Chargers will return to the court this evening as they host conference foe Western Boone.

Athenians take care of Mavericks

Crawfordsville traveled to McCutcheon Monday and took care of business against the Mavericks with a 4-1 win.

Wins for CHS came from Samantha Rohr at one singles, Harmony Taylor at three singles, Cathleen McGrady and Lilly Klingbeil at one doubles, and Elyse Widmer and Mia Wagner were victorious at two doubles.

The Athenians will be back in action this evening for their home opener against SAC foe Danville.

Golf

Athenians place second in three-team SAC meet

Making the first of two trips to Ulen Golf Course in Lebanon this week the Crawfordsville golf team placed second in a three-team meet against the host Tigers and Tri-West. Lebanon took first with a 171 while CHS shot a 191 just edging out the Bruins who shot a 192.

Luke Ranard and Landon Timmons both carded a 47 for the Athenians and Tanner Gilland shot a 48. Landon Hurt rounded out the scoring with a 49. Hayden Jeffries shot a 54 with Marshall Horton adding a 55.

““We had a rough evening on the links today.  After a great weekend win, we had a team letdown,” Crawfordsville coach Tom Perkins said. “The effort was there, but we just weren’t making our normal shots. “ There is plenty to work on before Quail Creek Thursday. We’ll be on the range tomorrow back at work. We’ll be back at Ulen Saturday for Lebanon’s Invite. Now we’ll know what to expect”

CHS will be back in action on Thursday for another tree-team SAC meet against the Bruins and Frankfort.

Mounties get back on track with win over Mustangs

After a disappointing second place finish in their own invite on Saturday, Southmont got back on track as they defeated Fountain Central 170-217.

Nolan Allen led the Mounties with a 39 and was named medalist. Harrison Haddock and Ty Elles both carded 44’s, while Carson McKinney rounded out the scoring for the Mounties with a 48. Luke Tesmer (50) and Tanner Walls (53) both also scored for Southmont.

Kameran Krug led FC with a 51, Jaylin Payne carded a 52, and Wesley Jackson finished with a 53. Koby Wolf rounded out the scoring for FC with a 61. Carter Merryman added a 64 and Mason Larkin a 67.

The Mounties return to the links on Wednesday with a trip to Parke Heritage while FC returns to action this evening at Seeger.

Track and Field

Chargers host Athenians, Mustangs, and Patriots in four-team meet

North Montgomery hosted Crawfordsville, Fountain Central and Seeger in four-team track and field meet on Monday evening. The Charger boys edged out CHS for first place with 84 points while the Athenians scored 81. Seeger was third with 53 points and the Mustangs placed fourth with a score of 22.

On the girls side the Athenians also took second place as Seeger scored 104 points with CHS scoring 75. The Chargers placed third with 51 points and FC was fourth with a team score of 10.
