Mounties out-last Cougars for five-set win

Southmont was back in action on Monday night as they traveled to take on North Putnam. The match between the Mounties and Cougars would prove to be a back and forth affair the entire evening as the match would end up going the distance in five sets.

When all was said and done, the Mounties would out-last the Cougars in a nail-biting five set win 25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 25-13, 15-13 for their third win of the season.

The Lady Mounties will look to make it two straight on Tuesday when they hit the road to battle against Greencastle.

Chargers fall in SAC opener

North Montgomery girls soccer knew they’d have their hands full against Danville as both teams opened up Sagamore Conference play on Monday. While the Chargers were able to keep pace with Danville for a majority of the first half, the high-powered Warriors pulled away in the second half for a 7-1 win over North Montgomery.

Teegan Bacon scored the lone Charger goal as the senior is now up to seven goals on the season.

“We played well in spurts, especially in the first half,” Charger coach Julie Hodges said. “We were able to play with a little possession and got several opportunities and numerous corners we couldn’t capitalize on. If we could have shifted the momentum, especially when it was 2-1 in the middle of the first half then it would have been interesting to see if we could have maintained. Danville is such a talented and experienced team, that it just wore us down.”

The Chargers fall to 1-2 on the year and will have the majority of the week off before returning to action on Saturday morning with a trip to Western Boone.

Athenians draw with Tiger Cubs

Crawfordsvillle girls soccer hosted Greencastle on Monday and for a majority of of the game looked as if they would snag their first win of the season. CHS led 2-0 at the half with both goals being scored by Riley Gardner. However the Tiger Cubs would rally in the second half to even up the game at 2-2 and that’s where the final score would stand as the two teams battled to a draw.

CHS records now sits at 0-2-1 on the season and they will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Frankfort for the SAC opener.

Girls Golf

Stars best Mounties at Cool Lake

Southmont girls soccer suffered a slight setback on Monday as the Mounties traveled to battle SAC rival Western Boone at Cool Lake. The Stars would end up besting the Mounties 178-196.

Addison Meadows led the way for the Mounties with a 40 with Kelsey Thompson carding a 49. Stella Snook ended her round with a 52 and both Parker Church and Courtlyn Carpenter ended with 55’s.

The Mounties return to action on Tuesday when they welcome a pair of tough opponents for a three-team meet as they will host Brownsburg and Lebanon.

Chargers fall to Raiders

North Montgomery welcomed a tough Harrison squad to Rocky Ridge on Monday and would fall 189-206.

Grace Littell led the Chargers with a 48 on the night with Shayana Ratcliff posting a score of 51. Grace Shrader ended her evening with a 53 and Maggie Yeager would card a 54. Bella Priddy rounded out the scoring for for NM with a 63.

The Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel for a dual meet with Clinton Prairie.

Boys Tennis

Athenians bested by Bison

Crawfordsville boys tennis faced another tough test on Monday when they hosted Benton Central. The Bison would end up besting CHS by a 4-1 final score but the match was a lot closer.

Wyatt Motz picked up the victory for CHS at two singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Adrian Torres. At one singles James Murphy was defeated by Logan Hardebeck 6-1, 6-1. Baylon Holmes edged out a three set tie-break win at three singles over Rowan Gambrel 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 10-6.

At one doubles Ryan Foster and Tyler Klemme beat Thomas Bowling and Jude Hutchison 6-2, 6-0 and at two doubles Jude Coursey and Nolan Wyatt would fall to Caleb Gobel and Carson Goodman 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

“Tonight was a dog fight,” Crawfordsville coach Craig Brainard said. “We made them work for every point but they just less errors than we did and that proved to be the difference.”

CHS will return to the courts on Tuesday when they travel to take on Parke Heritage.

Knights down Chargers

North Montgomery faced a stiff challenge from Lafayette Central Catholic on Monday and would fall to the Knights 4-1.

Alex Chapman picked up the victory for the Chargers at three singles as he defeated Josh Rogers 6-1, 6-0. At one singles Beckett Martin was defeated by Nathan Bapst 6-0, 6-0 while Hayden Turner fell at two singles to Gavin Boutelle 6-2, 6-2.

At one doubles the duo of Brookes Walters and Nate McCoy fell to Lucas Gerky and Max Siemers 6-4, 7-6 (5) and Haze Kashon and Owen Utterback would drop their match at two doubles 6-3, 6-2 to Riley Donohove and Trevor Powers.

North Montgomery will be right back in action Tuesday when they welcome Fountain Central.
