Athenians stay perfect with sweep of Panthers

Crawfordsville volleyball remained perfect on the season with a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-13, 25-13) over Riverton Parke on Tuesday.

Macy Bruton, who was named the Max Preps player of the week for her performance last week, led CHS with 25 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Jessica Tribble totaled 37 assists in the CHS win and added two kills and four digs. Hallie Gayler had four kills and three digs, Devan Johnson added seven kills, Elyse Widmer recorded three aces and seven digs, Samantha Rohr four digs, and Halle Elliot rounded out the stat sheet with 17 digs and one assist.

The Athenians are 7-0 on the season and will be back at home on Thursday when they host Seeger.

Mounties down yet another potential sectional opponent.

Southmont Volleyball continues to play some impressive and gritty volleyball as they begin their season. After a five-set thriller against North Putnam on Monday, the Mounties made the trip back to Putnam County for a match against Greencastle. Against another potential sectional opponent, the Lady Mounties would come away with a four set victory 24-26, 25-16, 25-22, 25-13.

The Mounties record now stands at 4-3 on the season and they will welcome Covington on Thursday.

Mustangs show improvement in loss to Patriots

Fountain Central while in a loss, got better on Tuesday as they fell to Seeger 25-11, 25-15, 25-11.

FC returns home on Thursday as they welcome Schlarman Academy.

Mounties get back on track with sweep of Stars

Southmont boys tennis needed a bounce back match on Tuesday as they traveled to Western Boone for their Sagamore Conference opener.

That’s exactly what the Mounties would get as they earned a 5-0 sweep of the Stars.

Adam Cox at one singles defeated Gavin Hankins 6-1, 6-1. Luke Tesmer downed Brady Warmoth 6-1, 6-0 at two singles for the Mounties. Harrison Haddock defeated the Stars Andrew Petro 7-5, 6-2.

At one doubles Chayce Howell and Mason Hall defeated Daniel Talbott and Garrett Prickett 6-3, 6-4 and rounding out the Mountie sweep was the duo of Caden Jones and Gavin Downey as they earned a win in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Tyler Konz and John Rutherford.

Southmont improves to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Sagamore Conference and will host South Vermillion on Thursday.

Boys Soccer

Chargers can’t contain high-powered Cougars

North Montgomery was looking to build momentum after notching their first win of the season on Saturday. The Chargers hosted North Putnam and the Cougars had other plans as the Chargers were unable to contain the North Putnam offense in an 8-2 defeat.

North Montgomery will be back in action on Thursday for a Sagamore Conference showdown with Frankfort.

Mounties fall in battle with Warriors

Southmont battled hard for a full 80 minutes but was unable to break through as they would fall on the road to Danville by a 2-1 final on Tuesday.

The Mounties will now get ready for their first county matchup of the season when they will travel to Crawfordsville on Thursday.

Girls Golf

Mounties fall in three-team meet

Facing two of the toughest teams they’ll see all season on Tuesday, Southmont girls golf placed third in a three-team meet against Brownsburg and Lebanon on Tuesday. Brownsburg would take first with a 171 with the Tigers taking second with a score of 179 with the Mounties carding a 191.

Addison Meadows was named medalist with a 34 for the Mounties. Kelsey Thompson shot a 45, Stella Snook a 53, Parker Church a 59 and Courtlyn Carpenter rounded out the Southmont scores with a 65.

The Mounties will host Cascade and Greencastle on Thursday.

Athenians drop place third in three-team SAC meet

Crawfordsville girls golf competed against SAC foes Danville and Western Boone on Tuesday and would place third in the three-team meet shooting a 223. Western Boone would take first with a 198 with the Warriors carding a 209.

Gabby Warren and Carli Payne led the way for CHS 55’s while McKenzie Wilson shot a 56. Both Sadie Walker and Ciara Wilke both carded 57’s and Christen Saunders ended with a 61.

CHS hosts both Seeger and Attica at the Cville Muni on Thursday.
