Bacon leads Chargers to shutout win

Teegan Bacon and scoring goals are a match made in heaven. The all-time leading scorer in Charger girls soccer history scored five goals as North Montgomery picked up a 5-0 road win over Twin Lakes on Thursday.

“We came out strong and played with command for a full 80 minutes,” Charger coach Julie Hodges said.  “Players stepped up in some new roles which gave us some more offensive opportunities. We are hoping to carry this momentum and use this as a stepping stone in our development as a team.”

Bacon now sits at 16 goals on the season and 84 for her career. The Chargers improved to 2-4 on the season. They’ll welcome Benton Central on Tuesday when they return to the pitch.

Mounties blanked by SAC rival Danville

Looking for their first win over Danville in school history on Thursday the Mounties battled the Warriors strong for the first 40 minutes of action. However a goal by the Warriors in the opening minutes of the fist half allowed Danville to put even more pressure on South. The Warriors would pull away and add two more goals to head back to Danville with a 3-0 win.

The loss for the Mounties sees their record fall to 5-3  on the season and 2-1 in the Sagamore Conference. The Mounties return to action on Tuesday when they travel to take on Frankfort.

Volleyball

Athenians down Red Ramblers

After suffering back-to-back tough losses, Crawfordsville hit the road to conclude their busy week on Thursday at they took on Attica. CHS would get back on track as they defeated the Red Ramblers 25-12, 25-13, 25-17 for a 3-0 win.

Macy Bruton had 22 kills, 11 digs and a pair of aces in the win for CHS. Halle Elliot added six kills and three aces, Hallie Gayler six kills, three aces, and two blocks, and Jessica Tribble assisted on 31 points for CHS.

The win improves Crawfordsville’s record to 9-2 on the season. They return home to Crawfordsville on Tuesday when they take on North Vermillion.

Mounties fall in four to Cadets

Southmont after picking up a county win against North Montgomery on Tuesday hit the road to take on the Cascade Cadets. The Mounties would take the first set 25-20 but the Cadets would be able to just get enough in the final three sets of the game and would best the Mounties in four sets 20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 28-26.

Chelsea Veatch tallied 18 digs in the loss with Tayler Anderson adding in another 12 digs. Regan Remley and Dara Watson both recorded 10 kills with Remley adding in 10 digs. Mallory Mason set up the Mountie offense with 20 assists.

The loss for the Mounties sees their record fall to 5-5 on the season. They’ll return to action on Saturday when they welcome Sagamore Conference powerhouse Western Boone to New Market for a 1 pm match.

Boys Soccer

Mounties fall to Cougars

Southmont boys soccer hit the road to take on North Putnam on Thursday but would fall to the Cougars 8-2. Skyler Wood scored both goals for the Mounties.

The Mounties fall to 2-7 on the season with the loss and will host Greencastle on Tuesday.

Athenians routed by Tigers

Crawfordsville traveled to take on Sagamore Conference foe Lebanon on Thursday and would fall 7-2 to the Tigers.

The Athenians fall to 3-2 (2-1 SAC) and will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Tri-West for a big SAC contest.
