9-12 Roundup: Night full of wins for Athenians

Athenians down Knights in sweep

Crawfordsville volleyball made the trip to Lafayette on Monday for a battle with Central Catholic. In another battle of two talented teams, it would be the Athenians who came away with a 3-0 sweep of the Knights 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 as Crawfordsville picked up their 12th win of the season.

Macy Bruton tallied 16 kills, 18 digs, and two aces in the win. Halle Elliot had 21 digs with Jessica Tribble adding 20 assists and seven digs. Elyse Widmer got six digs and an ace and Samantha Rohr rounded out the stat sheet with four digs and two aces.

The Athenians will hit the road again on Tuesday when they travel to take on North Putnam.

Boys Soccer

CHS gets back on track vs Bison

The Athenians needed a bounce back game as they made the lengthy trip to Benton Central on Monday. CHS had lost four straight games, but quickly snapped that skid with a dominating 9-0 win over the Bison.

Patrick Corado had himself quite the night for CHS with 5 goals in the victory. Andrew Jones and Manuel Olvera each added in two goals for CHS. Jones and Olvera also had two assists each while Ryo Nishina added two of his own. Yeison Cifuentes and Kevin Puerto got in on the scoring with a single assist each.

Alex Saidian played a clean game in goal for CHS and tallied four saves.

Crawfordsville improves to 4-4 on the season and will hit the road on Thursday when they travel to take on North Putnam.

Girls Golf

Athenians victorious on links in four-team meet

On the course that they will play the sectional this Saturday, Crawfordsville girls golf picked up a victory in a four team meet with against Attica, Seeger, and Covington on Monday.

CHS shot a 209 with the Patriots coming in second with a 210. The Red Ramblers placed third at 213 and the Trojans fourth with a 249.

Carli Payne led CHS in the win with a 45. Ada Hutson scored second with a 49 with Sadie Walker notching a 53. Christen Saunders scored fourth for the Athenians with a  56.

The Athenians had plenty of players on the links as McKenzie Wilson also carded a 58, Nancy Blanchard a 60, and the duo of Gabby Warren and Olivia Fichter both ended with 62’s.

The Athenians return to the Crawfordsville Country Club on Wednesday as they will meet up again with both Southmont and North Montgomery in the county meet.
