Athenians show toughness in close SAC loss

Alex Ehrlich has Crawfordsville girls soccer moving in the right direction. After their first win of the season last week against Lebanon, CHS made the trip for another SAC battle with longtime SAC power Danville. CHS wouldn’t back down from the challenge and battled the Warriors for a full 80 minutes before falling in a close 2-1 defeat.

CHS falls to 1-4-2 (0-2 SAC) and will return to the pitch on Monday after an extended break as they will host Lafayette Central Catholic.

Mounties drop SAC road contest

Making the haul to Frankfort is never easy. On Tuesday Southmont girls soccer made the trek as they took on the Hot Dogs. An early goal by Jessica Hale gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead but the hosts would even up the score and take a 1-1 tie into halftime.

Near the 20-minute mark of the second half, Frankfort added another goal to jump out in front 2-1. The Hot Dogs would hold on for a 2-1 win to give the Mounties a SAC loss.

Southmont falls to 5-4 (1-2 SAC) on the season and will be back in action on Thursday when they host Greencastle.

Mounties sweep Hot Dogs

Southmont boys tennis got back to its winning ways on Tuesday as they traveled to take on Sagamore Conference foe Frankfort and walked away with a 5-0 sweep.

Adam Cox did as he always does for the Mounties and came away with a victory at one singles over Edwin Wainscott 6-1, 6-2. Luke Tesmer defeated Jake Swinford 6-1, 6-1 at two singles and Harrison Haddock took care of Jackson Ray 6-0, 6-1 at three singles.

Chayce Howell and Mason Hall notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Elija West and Carson Hale at one doubles. Caden Jones and Gavin Downey was victorious in three sets at two doubles 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Isai Jimenez and Alex Earley.

The win improves the Mounties record to 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Sagamore Conference. They will be back at home on Thursday when they host South Putnam.

Athenians move into driver seat in SAC

After a thrilling 3-2 win over county rival Southmont last week, Crawfordsville boys tennis was back in action against a tough SAC foe in Lebanon. CHS would end up picking up a 4-1 win over the Tigers which moves them into the drivers seat for the SAC crown.

James Murphy battled all night at one singles and was rewarded with a three set win over John Gascho 4-6, 7-6(7-5), 7-6(7-5). Wyatt Motz handled Matthew Barber at two singles 6-0, 6-0 and Rowan Gambrel earned a three set win at three singles over Owen Bigler 3-6, 7-6(7-4), 6-3.

At two doubles Thomas Bowling and Nolan Watt defeated David Garica and Danil Krulik 6-4, 6-4. The lone loss for CHS came at one doubles as the duo of Jude Coursey and Jude Hutchison fell to Jack Ferrell and Reece Guyman 6-2, 6-2.

Crawfordsville will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Lafayette Jeff.

Chargers fall to Trojans

North Montgomery boys tennis fell 4-1 as they hosted Covington on Tuesday.

Owen Utterback fell to Evan Norton 6-0 6-0 at one singles while Hayden Turner was defeated by Urban Roarks at two singles 6-2, 6-0. Alex Chapman at three singles was bested by Emmett Reynolds 6-2, 6-3.

Myles Potter and and Beckett Martin fell 6-0, 6-0 at one doubled to the powerhouse team of Myles Potter and Jackson Kindell.

The lone Charger win came from two doubles as Haze Kashon and Nate McCoy defeated Carson Schaeffer and Aiden Miller 6-0, 6-4.

North Montgomery returns to the courts on Wednesday for a match against Delphi.

Girls Golf

Mounties notch win vs Cougars

As Southmont prepares for the big Sagamore Conference meet on Saturday, the Mounties traveled to take on North Putnam and would come away with a 195-215 victory.

Addison Meadows earned medalist with a 39 for the Mounties as Kelsey Thompson shot a 49. Stella Snook recorded a 53, Courtlyn Carpenter a 54. Parker Church shot a 61 and Madisyn Posthauer ended with a 62.

The Mounties will be back out for one more round before the SAC meet as on Thursday as they travel to Parke Heritage to battle the Wolves as well as Seeger, Attica, and Fountain Central.

Athenians improve in loss to Tigers

Crawfordsville girls golf saw their score improve as they traveled to take on SAC powerhouse Lebanon on Tuesday. CHS would fall to the Tigers 177-214.

Sadie Walker led CHS as she tied her personal best by carding a 47. Carli Payne shot a 54 with Nancy Blanchard ending her night with a 56. Ada Hutson rounded out the scoring for CHS with a 57.

The Athenians are back out on the links Thursday when they host Greencastle and Northview.

Boys Soccer

Mounties fall to Tiger Cubs

Greencastle came into Southmont on Tuesday in boys soccer action and walked out with a 9-3 victory over the Mounties.

South falls to 2-7 on the season and will have a week of rest before they host Frankfort next Tuesday.
