Community, firefighters gather to pay tribute to former fire chief Fred Davis

Fred Davis joined the Crawfordsville Fire Department in 1960. He served as assistant fire chief from 1974 to 1975 and was chief from 1976 to 1987. He retired from the department in 1988. He also worked for the Indiana State Fire Marshal in 1989 and 1990. After leaving the fire service, Davis served as Montgomery County Emergency Management Director from 2001 to 2012. He died Oct. 12 at the age of 90. He leaves behind a sister, five children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His full obituary appeared in the Oct. 15 edition of the Journal Review.
