Agreement signed to pay for Wabash Avenue project

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday approved an agreement to pay a local contractor for finishing the East Wabash Avenue project.

The $354,000 agreement with Dave Price Excavating Inc. covers the work that crews performed after the previous contractor, Indianapolis-based DC Construction, stopped working on the street.

Crawfordsville cut ties with DC over the stoppage, but agreed to pay the company for the work that was already completed.

Combined with DC’s original contract, the total cost of the project was slightly higher than first projected because of drainage issues that had to be tackled, street commissioner Scott Hesler said.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a $66,590 bid from Brown Equipment Co. for a leaf collector and hydraulic lift for the street department.

• Approved mowing or trash removal requests for 513 Tuttle Ave. owned by Wanda Conkright; the former CVS Pharmacy at West Chestnut and South Washington streets owned by Daniel G. Kamin; 809 S. Walnut St. owned by the late Shaun Pyle; and 1002 Tuttle Ave., owned by Josette Lambert.
