Allen L. Ragsdale, 88, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at home.

He was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Boone County, to Orval and Geneva (Highland) Ragsdale. He had five sisters and one brother and was preceded in death by his parents and sister Maxine McIntyre.

Allen married Janice Harper on Feb. 4, 1956. She survives.  Together they had three children, Randy (Becky) Ragsdale, Westfield, Vivian (Kevin) Fischer, Crawfordsville and Tony (Jessie) Ragsdale, Pasadena Texas. 

Allen served in the US Army from 1951-1954; he retired after more than 30 years from Commercial Motor Freight and moved to Texas in 1983 where he and Janice owned their own businesses until their return to Indiana in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion for many years, and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for 60 years where he served as president in 1965 and 1966 and as a trustee for several years. Allen’s second home was the golf course, he was an avid golfer and spent much of his free time playing.

Other surviving family include: brother Robert Ragsdale; sisters, Judy Walker, Eileen Whitaker, Janet Hussong and Sharon Blackwell; sister in-law Linda (John) Astin; grandchildren, Melissa (Josh) Patton, Brian (Sara) Howard, Scott (Kelly) Ragsdale, Patrick (Taryn) Ragsdale, Andrew (Aman Kaur) Ragsdale, Sara (Tristen) Chapman, Samantha Parker and Makade Fischer; and great-grandchildren, Riley and Kennady Sanders, Hazel Howard, Logan and Dylan Ragsdale, Kamryn, Reid and Luke Ragsdale, Bentley, Keelie and Parker Chapman and Addison Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Willhite Cemetery in Wingate. A celebration of life will follow at 5 p.m. at the Eagles in Crawfordsville.
