Area boys advance to track and field regional

Area track and field teams experienced success at the boys’ IHSAA Track and Field Sectionals on Thursday. A total of 21 area athletes will advance to their respective regionals Thursday.

Three teams, Crawfordsville, Fountain Central and North Montgomery traveled to Lafayette Jefferson to compete. The top three finishers in each event advanced to the regional.

Crawfordsville tied with North Montgomery for third place with 69 points apiece. The Athenians had eight regional qualifiers and the Chargers had seven.

Crawfordsville athletes advancing are Alec Saidian, who placed second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.78. Huntyr Miles placed third in the 200 meters in 23.49.

The Crawfordsville 4x800 relay team of Jantzen Thayer, Cole Capper, Josh Inskeep and Max Brumett placed third with a time of 8:52.98.

In field events, Athenian Wyatt Motz placed second with a 5’10” mark in high jump. Crawfordsville’s Wyatt Million placed third in the shot put with a heave of 43’0”.

The Chargers were led by Cam Claycomb who advanced in three events. The senior was second in the 200 meter sprint with a time of 23:01 and he was a member of the 4x100 relay team along with Dakota Glasson, Clayton Brown and Jayden Thompson finishing with a time of 44:45.

Claycomb also was a member of the champion 4x400 relay team comprised of Kale Mitchell, Thompson and Brown. The foursome finished with a time of 3:33.57.

In the field events, Charger Gage Taylor heaved the shot put 46’10” to place second and Colin Tyo threw the discus 139’2” to place third.

Fountain Central placed 11th as a team with three points and had no regional qualifiers. Dallas Hoagland was the top finisher for the Mustangs who placed seventh in shot put with a throw of 41”1.5’.

Southmont traveled to Terre Haute North High School and finished with six regional qualifiers and finished third with 60 points.

The Mounties’ 4x400 relay team proved to be the fastest with a time of 3:33.17. Members of the team were Tyler Petroski, Hunter Gray, Samuel Crum and Vince Reimondo.

Reimondo also advanced in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00 which placed him second. He was also a member of the second place Mountie 4x800 relay team of Gray, Crum and Karter Patton with a time of 8:33.68.

Southmont’s senior pole vaulter Clayton Allen cleared the bar at 13’.0” to finish second to round out Mountie qualifiers.

Regional qualifiers from Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will compete Thursday at the Lafayette Jefferson Regional. Southmont will travel to Plainfield High School.
